A yes vote

Editor: The Lisbon Cemetery Board has a renewal levy on the November ballot this year. I firmly believe that it is in the best interest of all Lisbon residents to vote yes on this issue. The cemetery board members work very hard, along with the workers they employ, to keep our cemetery attractive and a pleasant place to visit our loved ones resting there. I have, over many years, worked closely with them during the Memorial Day observance and found all those involved with maintaining our cemetery to be very cooperative and interested in making sure all goes well for our program ...

Editor: Pretty powerful the media has gotten. Kinda makes you really think how stupid we all have sounded when you stop and take it all in. Republican, Democrat, Independent, and others. Yelling, and not talking. Walking away, not standing and listening. We are all made of flesh and blood. We are all Americans first. Color has to be an afterthought at this point. Editor: October is the 30th anniversary of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and the 20th anniversary of the Christina House Domestic Violence Program. While we’ve made great strides to address this rampant issue (through legislation like the Violence Against Women Act, programs that help support survivors and victims of abuse, and efforts to teach young people about healthy relationships), there’s still so much work to be done. Lost gold mines

Editor: The teardown of the oldest commercial buildings, now 220 years old, in the state of Ohio would be sacrilege. Those buildings were deeded March 23, 1805, one day following Thomas Jefferson receiving the final payment from Lewis Kinney for the land to be known as New Lisbon, Ohio. Tearing them down would result in the loss of an entire half block of Lisbon’s downtown. Who doesn’t awe at the archway half-way up that block? Editor: This mess we have with North Korea dramatically illustrates what can happen when politicians get involved in fighting wars. After World War II, Joseph Stalin demanded that the entire peninsula of Korea come under Soviet influence. Editor: Last week, East Liverpool Chief John Lane announced that the city had received the state DART grant for $50,000 over the next two years. The city is to be congratulated on this achievement, and now have the ability to provide help to the many in the area suffering from drug addiction.
