Reaction to comments by Wellsville officials

To the editor: I am disappointed to learn of the reaction that certain Wellsville officials have had in learning that their recent CDBG application had not been funded. As my office provides guidance to the commissioners regarding the CDBG program, I thought it important to help set the record straight. Part of my responsibility with the CDBG program is to review projects and make recommendations regarding which should be funded. The commissioners do not always take my recommendations, but they always have a reasoned approach if they go another direction. While matching funds are ...

Keep the demon of selfishness behind bars

To the editor: In an old episode of “The Twilight Zone,” a man sees a guy in a prison cell and is strictly warned not to let him out. He is told the guy is the devil but only sees an innocent man. Feeling himself justified and the bearded old men as crazy, he defies orders and released the devil upon the world. Even if this devil did not attack you but killed your loves ones, could you ever live with yourself? As you honestly answer this and know it’s fiction it does not hold honest reflection on us today. Feeling healthy we want to go out and party or protest without ...

Please stop all of the hate

To the editor: When I saw George Floyd dying under four cops, my heart broke for his family. This is evil working but we can’t judge all the cops in our country the same way. Lots of cops in our country are not like them. They keep the law. They love people and they love to serve. The want to keep us safe. My heart broke when I saw burning cars, burning businesses, breaking into businesses and stealing. People using hate and destroying other people’s livelihoods. They have no right to do it. Two wrongs do not make it right. To kill someone or kill someone’s dreams. They are ...

Thanks and appreciation for all of our police officers

To the editor: A special thanks and a note of respect and appreciation goes out to all local police officers in the tri-state area. These brave men and women put their lives on the line each and every day not know if they will live to see another day. I tip my hat to all of you for protecting us and putting your life on the line. Stressing the safety and efficiency of your mail carrier

To the editor: Letter carriers take pride in delivering mail promptly, efficiently, and in the safest manner possible. Backing is the most dangerous maneuver a postal vehicle can make. An effort has been made nationally to eliminate as many backing instances as possible on each and every postal route. This is being done for the safety of our employees as well as our customers. With the review of delivery points on each and every route, some mail receptacle locations are being requested to be re-located to a safer location to ensure the safety of our employees and customers. Oftentimes ...

Thanks to the Washingtonville VFW

To the editor: On behalf of the families of some Leetonia School students we want to express our gratitude to the members of the Washingtonville VFW. A handful of students are planning on attending the 2021 presidential inauguration and the donation from the VFW to each student is extremely appreciated. We all do what we can for our kids and wanted them to be able to attend this once-in-a-lifetime adventure. The generosity of the VFW made it less of a financial struggle for some of the families of these gifted students. A special THANK YOU to Jim Dickens for approaching the members ...
