To the editor: I want to thank and respond to Robert Spaite for his letter to the editor (May 4). In my opinion, I think it should be reprinted in bold type and maybe someone who should have read it, and needs to read it, might spot it the second time around. I don’t know Mr. Spaite’s age. I’m in my 70s and therefore remember parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles talking about the Great Depression and WWII with its rationing and life changes. To the editor: I’m a big fan of personal liberty and self-governance. I also value my health and that of those around me. I believe we don’t have to sacrifice one for the other. It doesn’t make sense to me that the prescription for this virus should be one that assaults liberty, destroys the economy and disrupts the food chain. To the editor: The danger has passed, the curve has been flattened, peaked, plateaued and is on the decline. Given the dire forecast models that our leaders were faced with at first drastic measures were the correct course of action. Thanks to those measures the hospitals and medical system are not overwhelmed, extra hospitals built by the Army Corps of Engineers were under used or not used at all. To the editor: Everyday this president is working to help the hospitals get their supplies. Just look what we need for New York, California and others. Why are we getting our supplies from China?
