For weeks now there have been reports that Columbiana County Chief Assistant Prosecutor John Gamble was party to an incident at Pinky’s Lounge in New Garden, Ohio involving serious breaches of confidentiality and just plain inappropriate, illegal behavior by one in his position. This breach in confidentiality concerned highly sensitive and confidential information contained in an active Coroner’s Investigation relating to the tragic death of a local young lady, who in fact died of natural causes. ‘So just where is everybody?’

To the editor: Diane Dimond, is an opinion writer often published in the Morning Journal. I find her comments well thought out and worth considering. Ms. Dimond really hit my hot button today, September 30th, in her commentary titled, “So, just where everybody?” She goes on to say, “Where are the calm voices of those who think there is a better way?” When I ask that question in my neighborhood, I quite frequently get the response, “ My voice doesn’t count.” “Who will listen to me?” “I’m really not interested in getting involved.” And on and on with excuses. ...

To the editor: The upcoming presidential election is one of the most important ones in America’s history, as are Congressional races. Regardless of your political views, I urge everyone to cast aside names and personalities, likable or not, and focus solely on each party’s ideology, as demonstrated by their platform and the words and actions of the candidates themselves. One party favors the following (or turns a blind eye), the other does not: —Higher taxes, imposed directly or indirectly. —Open borders. —Voting without requiring proof of one’s identity. ...

Mother of 9-11 victim expresses gratitude

To the editor: I want to express my appreciation to both the Evening Review and the Morning Journal for the stories on 9-11-01. I felt that you covered it with journalistic professionalism. Mayor Nancy Murry and Police Chief Wilson did an excellent presentation of the wreath. I was also pleased to see Barry Podwell — a classmate of Cathy’s. Later I watched the ceremony at Shanksville, Pa. Even with the COVID-19 restriction the ceremony was outstanding. The speakers reminded us of the heroic people on that plane. They brought home to me the fact that those people had time to try to ...

Community lost an outstanding public servant

To the editor: The Lisbon area lost a fine public servant recently. Center Township Trustee Kenneth Schreffler set a good example for others to follow. Kenny — husband, father and grandfather —was not political. He performed his duties without fanfare. He inspected township roads, returned telephone calls from residents, and attended to their concerns. But he did more than that. He was active in his community, again without fanfare, and all for good causes. Those with the values of Kenny Schreffler are in short supply these days. His family’s loss is also ours. Lack of compassion is a real sickness in our nation

To the editor: Life is strange no matter who you talk to on any given day. Yet over the course of the months this Covid pandemic has cursed us, it seems as though it has brought forth more of mankind’s fickle nature. So many people speak about loving one another in the darkest of times yet when times such as these come up more hearts seem to close.
