Refuting Witcover column

To the Editor: Jules Witcover does have a way to upset me. In my favorite newspaper, the Morning Journal, Feb. 18 issue, Mr. Witcover states, “Did Russia just blink on Ukraine threat?” Implying that Biden stopped Russia’s potential invasion of Ukraine. How does the Biden administration decisions on foreign and domestic policy stack up with their one-year history of decisions? Let’s take a look. Every foreign and domestic policy decision Biden and his administration made, over the last year, was actually the wrong decision based on what’s good for the USA. Afghanistan, ...

Response to Lisbon mayor’s revitalization project plan

To the Editor: In the January 22-23 paper was a guest column by (Lisbon) Mayor Peter Wilson.  First of all, when the revitalization project began it was to repair buildings and move new businesses into the open spaces, but Mayor Peter Wilson has used this to harass businesses not in operation. This can be verified by asking around at businesses in town. This kind of behavior has far more potentional to drive out business than to draw business in. Only eight of these buildings being rehabbed is far from making great strides. The fact that Lisbon has lost 8 percent of its population ...

Continued failings of politicians, media

To the Editor: Just a brief letter to point out the continued failings of our politicians and the media. I walked into the TV room on Feb. 17 and caught the tail end of a political spokesperson stating that Russia, if sanctioned, will institute a cyber attack on the USA. Why would you even acknowledge what they may do? Do they like frightening the people of this country? I say “Yes, they love headlines.” Then, that same intellectual giant proceeded to say that based upon “government intelligence,” the most vulnerable area to attack would be (not something I will pass on). ...

To the editor: The Wellsville Lions Club, after having served the community for 42 years, has elected to relinquish its charter with Lions Club International. The same members who have dedicated and volunteered their time over the years to serve Wellsville will continue to do so under a new name — The Wellsville Care and Share Community Club. The projects and programs that have been available to the residents of Wellsville under the Lions Club will continue with the new organization. Such programs include Care and Share, providing eye exams and eyeglasses, and many other projects. ...

In support of Salem and its mayor

To the editor: I was delighted to read in the local newspapers that Salem’s ytd 2021 tax receipts are markedly better than anticipated despite the difficulties which most of the nation’s communities are experiencing with the lingering effects of the Covid 19 pandemic. Let’s hope that the coming year will be even better for us. Given this robust financial outlook for the City of Salem, I want to congratulate Mayor John Berlin for having the foresight and for taking the lead in investing city dollars into the future of our downtown with the city’s recent purchase of what has long ...
