Rulli asks governor to prevent BMV closure

Dear Governor: I am writing to respectfully request your personal oversight and intervention in the proposed closure of the Salem, Ohio Office of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Salem is the largest city in Columbiana County, serving a population of over 20,000 if you include the contiguous townships. The Salem office transacted a total of over 70,000 process transactions, including motor vehicle and related transactions. East Liverpool resident upset over water hikes

To the editor: Recently received my water/sewer/refuse/storm water bill from the ELO water department. For any of your readers that don’t care to do the math, the city has recently passed along a 45.9% increase on our water rates. I guess they can raise our rates whenever they feel the need without our input.  When was the last time any of us got a 46% increase in anything?  While looking through the other utilities I pay, I began to notice my water bill is one of my most expensive utilities. Hang tough, trustees

To the editor: I have been following the recent news regarding the most current annexation issues between the City of Salem and the Perry Township Trustees. This, in my mind, boils down to whether or not deed restrictions on approximately 33 township properties — created 27 years prior, requiring such properties to annex into the city if and when the subject property becomes adjacent to the city boundary — are legally binding. To the editor: I remember when my aunt and uncle went back to college to earn their university degrees. At 55, my aunt decided to go back to college to earn a bachelor’s degree. My uncle always told her, you’re going to get older anyway, so why not earn a degree. Many times, we look at only the economic value of a degree. Economics and cost are essential, but it is not the only considerations to consider when determining the value that comes from having a college diploma. To the editor: Gas prices are on the minds of a majority of Ohioans in one way or another. The number you see at the pump can impact everything from your commute to work, to a vacation, and ultimately your family’s budget.
