Sting operations hurting EP community

To the editor: The village of East Palestine is committed to revitalizing our community. The plans are amazing and I am proud of the efforts of so many striving for a better future. However, in the midst of all of this I must call to light my ongoing concern for the sex sting operations drawing offenders to our community. Numerous years ago, the Columbiana County Prosecutors Office was approached about creating a local pedophile sting program. We were against it. Reason being that when a pedophile takes the planning, money and effort to travel to meet his “prize” there is a lot of ...

Congressman working on rail safety

To the editor: I am the Congressman who represents folks in Beaver County, Pennsylvania—just across the border from East Palestine. My constituents, your neighbors, were also hurt by the Norfolk Southern derailment, and they expected me to do all I can to help.   That’s why I introduced the House version of the Railway Safety Act. The bill would add requirements for wayside defect detectors, increase fines for railroad wrongdoing, strengthen safety procedures for trains carrying hazardous materials, require at least two-person crews on trains, and more. This measure is supported ...

Poetic words from longtime East Liverpool supporter

To the editor: “This town is your town. This town is my town. From east to west end, all up and down, from the Ohio River and Allegheny Mountains, this town was made for you and me. As I went strolling thru Thompson Park, I watched the city as it grew dark thru the quiet stillness called God’s meadowlark. This town was made for you and me. I gaze across to the mountain ridge, where down below stands the Chester Bridge and churning along goes a river dredge. This town was made for you and me. Our Alumni Tower, so proud to view, the kilns and potteries now very few. But let’s ...

Concerned about prescribed opioids

To the editor: Wellsville is one of countless communities here in Ohio that has been ravaged by the opioid epidemic. As a former member of the city council for nearly eight years, my colleagues and I worked hard to make sure folks had access to the services and resources they needed to beat their addiction. While these efforts helped, our region is still struggling to deal with the losses caused by this crisis. Despite the awful impact that opioids have had on our community, they continue to be prescribed at an alarming rate. This is especially true for our state’s senior ...

Thanks for those supporting Diamond Christmas Tree

To the editor: My letter of thanks to all the generous people who donated money for the East Liverpool Diamond Christmas Tree (like the one in Columbiana). I started out early many, many mornings and knocked on many, many doors with a picture in my hand and a hopeful smile on my 92-year-old face trying to get people to think we needed this tree as much as I did. With a thankful prayer in my heart, we finally reached the goal of $10,000. However, the star for the top was another $500. My Glenmoor grade school friend, Betty Murray, from Florida saw the picture in The Review of me ...

Children need to know about the Holocaust

To the editor: In regards to the recent letter to the editor from Ellen Burlingame, I definitely agree. Show the film about the Holocaust to the children of today. They have no idea what it was like and what really happened. We must never forget! The inumane things they did to the Jews was unforgivable! JOYCE HILLBERRY, Lisbon
