Sheriff Reports
— A deputy was dispatched at 12:34 p.m. Sunday to Knox School Road, Knox Township, for a welfare check on a woman due to her telephone going straight to voicemail. The deputy spoke to the woman, who was fine.
— A man on Buck Road, Knox Township reported at 4:47 p.m. Wednesday that his 15-year-old daughter was being harassed on her TikTok accounts by an unknown user. He was advised to block the account and contact the administrator of TikTok.
— A Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office deputy was dispatched at 1:40 a.m. Wednesday to a residence on Buck Road, Knox Township to make contact with a person for the Stark County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy spoke with the person via the security system at the home and advised him to contact Stark County.
— A man on Woodland Avenue, Salem called at 7:47 p.m. Tuesday to request a welfare check on his two daughters that he had not had contact with since Sunday, Jan. 11, 2026, who reside with their mother in Hanover Township. A deputy spoke to the two daughters, ages 10 and 15, who were fine.
Leetonia
— An officer was dispatched shortly after midnight Dec. 24 to the report of racing vehicles in the200 block of Ridge. Upon arrival, he was unable to locate what was reported.
— Police were requested to do a standby at 10:09 a.m. Dec. 24 as a vehicle was removed via tow truck from the 200 block of Oak Street and returned to its owner.
— An alarm drop was reported at 10:12 a.m. Dec. 29 down at a location in the1300 block of Beeson Mill Road. An officer stayed on location, until a key holder arrived.
— An officer documented a crash between a Leetonia school bus and a vehicle at 2:30 p.m. Jan. 9 driven by Fantasia Smith, of Elm Street, at the intersection of Elm and Park streets.
— Police investigated a report at 10:43 p.m. Jan. 8 by a Leetonia woman regarding the possible discovery of a weapon involved in a Mahoning County homicide. Her brother, a Boardman resident, admitted to removing the weapon from his vehicle while cleaning it out last week and leaving it at a second female’s Somer Street home. Several hours later, a cardboard box buried near the shed was located, containing a fake plastic toy gun, and police cleared without further incident.
— Daniel Elliott, no address listed, was stopped at 5:41 a.m. Jan. 10 near State and Hazel streets for an equipment violation. Elliott admitted to driving under suspension when he couldn’t produce a valid license. He ultimately was cited for DUS and his vehicle towed.
— An officer provided a courtesy transport at 11:24 a.m. Jan. 10 for a known elderly man walking along state Route 344 from Salem to eat lunch at Wick Park due to the rain.
— While responding after noon Jan. 11 to a Crestview Road residence, officers made entry and discovered the occupant Milan Woods deceased.
St. Clair Township
— A driver was given a warning for no county sticker on the license plate following a Jan. 3 traffic stop on St. Clair Avenue. The driver and passenger were known to the officer to have prior drug usage, so the officer requested consent to search the vehicle. Permission was granted; a search was conducted with no drugs found.
— A BP employee contacted police to report an occupied vehicle sitting in the parking lot of the business for some time and requested to have it removed on Jan. 3. An officer spoke to the driver who said he was tired and must have fallen asleep, but he was leaving.
— An officer was requested by Liverpool Township Police Department for a Jan. 3 traffic on Irish Ridge Road, which involved a reckless driver St. Clair officer previously had a call on. The call was handled by Liverpool Township Police and Ohio Highway Patrol.
— A disabled vehicle was reported on state Route 170 on Jan. 3. An officer searched the area for it but did not find it.
— Officers spoke to a Calcutta Smith Ferry Road resident who reported said he believed someone to sneaking in and out of his house on Jan. 3. Officers searched the house but found no intruder.
— An officer was sent to state Route 11 on Jan. 3 for a large object in the roadway, which was already removed when he arrived.
— An officer found Starbucks to be secure after responding to an alarm on Jan. 3.
— An officer who came across a vehicle halfway in the road on Lisbon Street on Jan. 4 talked to the owners who said the vehicle slid down the driveway and they needed help getting it up into the driveway. The vehicle was removed from the roadway.
— An officer issued a deer carcass receipt to the owners of a vehicle that hit a deer on Jan. 4 on Calcutta Smith Ferry Road so they could take the deer.
— An officer checking Starbucks on Jan. 4 due to an alarm found the building secure.
— Officers filed a report on Jan. 4 for damage done by a white semi truck at a business on St. Clair Avenue. The semi dragged two boulders with its rear tires as it was turning around in the parking lot.
— Officers checked the area of East Liverpool Road and state Route 170 on Jan. 5 to search for a female that was reported to be yelling for help.
— An officer spoke with a driver from United Dairy who said he was the reason for an alarm sounding at Beaver Local Schools on Jan. 5. The driver said the school had changed the code.
— Beth Zanker, age and address not provided, was issued a citation for speeds of 48 mph in a 35-mph zone following a Jan. 5 traffic stop on St. Clair Avenue.
— Kevin Morris, age and address not provided, was issued a citation for speeds of 82 mph in a 45-mph zone following a Jan. 6 traffic stop on Calcutta Smith Ferry Road.
— Adam Graham, age and address not provided, was issued a citation for expired plates following a Jan. 6 traffic stop on state Route 170.
— A driver was issued a verbal warning for traveling at a higher rate of speed than traffic following a Jan. 6 traffic stop on McCoy Avenue.
— An officer observing a driver with an outstanding warrant conducted a traffic stop on Broad Street on Jan 7 and took the driver Uriah Mitchell, 20, address not provided, into custody after verifying the warrant. Mitchell’s vehicle was towed by Calcutta Towing.
— William Howard, age and address not provided, was issued a citation for failure to stop a redlight following a Jan. 7 traffic stop on Calcutta Smith Ferry Road.
— Officers checked the Highland Apartments on Jan. 8 after a female said that someone was pounding on her door and she wanted it checked. The officers searched but did not observe anything out of the ordinary.
— Officers did not find any vehicles on the parking of JP’s after arriving there to check out a report of an unresponsive male in a vehicle on Jan. 8.
— Officers trespassed a male from the YMCA parking lot on Jan. 9.
— An officer conducted a traffic stop on Jan. 9 on Y&O Road when the vehicle came back registered to a person with a suspended license. The driver was found to be a valid driver and released.
— Officers moved along a group of people who were in the Sheetz parking lot playing music on Jan 10, after employees requested, they be removed.
— Officers on Jan. 12, checked a portion of state Route 170 for a reported road rage incident.
— A vehicle BP employees requested police have removed from the property on Jan. 13 was gone when officers arrived.
East Liverpool
— Officers receiving a call with a caller only saying, “send someone up here, he’s on his way to kill her,” on Dec. 31, searched a Shadylane apartment building without hearing or seeing any signs of an altercation. They also searched the parking lot and found no signs of a disturbance.
— After a caller reported that he heard noises which sounded like a body hitting the floor coming from his neighbor’s Morton Street residence on Dec. 31., an officer made contact with the neighbor who told them everything was fine and it was just his children playing and running up the stairs of the apartment. Officers noted that they observed no signs of a disturbance or altercation inside the apartment.
— Officers receiving multiple calls regarding a possible physical altercation at the Fawcett Apartments on Dec. 31 spoke with residents at the apartment who said they had not gotten into an altercation and officers did not see any signs of an altercation. They later responded back to the apartments for another noise complaint where they were told two people could be heard arguing. Officers stood outside the apartment for five minutes without hearing anything.
— Officers arrived at a Laura Avenue residence on Dec. 31 to speak with a female regarding a theft complaint on items from her apartment. After knocking multiple times, with no response, the officers left. The female later called back saying no one showed up, but a review of the officer’s body cam showed the officer there knocking multiple times on the door.
— Officers went to a Laura Avenue residence on Dec. 31 to speak with a resident who said a neighbor had entered her apartment without permission and hurt her cat. Officers asked if she had proof of her claim against the neighbor and she told them she had received messages on Facebook Messenger of the neighbor admitting to entering her home without her consent, but she was unable to produce the messages when the officers requested them. Officers also did not observe any injuries to the cat. The officers provided her with officer contact information and told her to send any message that pertain to her complaint to them.
— A caller from Jefferson requested a welfare check on a 17-year-old juvenile who was possibly at a party where narcotics and alcohol were being served to her. Officers found the juvenile at a Northside Street residence and spoke with her. She told officers she was allowed to be there and that she was sober and had not taken any narcotics or alcohol. The juvenile face-timed her stepfather who told officers she was allowed to be there. Officers noted that the juvenile showed no signs of intoxication or distress.
— Noah Wheaton, 25, address not provided, was issued citations and court date for OVI, OVI refusal (refusing a breath test) second offense and failure to control after officers responded to a three vehicle crash on Dec. 31 on Bradshaw Ave. Wheaton agreed to do field sobriety testing to which officers told him he was not under arrest but due to the incline of the roadway and cold temperature they would go to the police station to conduct the test. Officers indicated during the tests; Wheaton showed multiple signs of impairment. His vehicle was towed by First Class Towing due it being disabled in the crash.
— Officers who received a call about a suicidal man who said he took pills on Jan. 1 talked to the male until Lifeteam arrived and transported him to the hospital.
— An officer advised a female who reported a male for breaking things at her Wilbert Avenue apartment on Jan. 1 that the male would be trespassed from CHMA properties.
— A female at a St. Clair Avenue apartment reported on Jan. 1 a crib stolen out of her storage. When she spoke to officers, she told them there was a lot of drug activity in another apartment there, and she suspects they were the ones who took the crib.
— Officers had First Class Towing remove a truck that blocking the driveway of a Thompson Avenue resident and preventing the resident from leaving on Jan. 1. Officers tried to contact the owner of the truck by phone, but the call went straight to voicemail.
— Officers responding to College Street on Jan. 1 for a report of a fight spoke to both people involved who said it was a verbal argument.
— Officers transported a male and his young son to his parents’ house on Jan. 1 after responding to a possible domestic situation with the mother of the child at a Shadylane residence. The female was very intoxicated and difficult to understand, and the couple got into a verbal argument due to being intoxicated. The police transported the male and infant to his parents so further conflict would be avoided for the rest of the evening.
— Officers responding to River Road to assist a vehicle stuck on train tracks on Jan. 1 alerted Norfolk Southern and First Class Towing of the situation. The officers were able to push the vehicle off the tracks and cancel the tow truck.
— Crystal Pugh, 45, address not provided, was arrested for domestic violence after witnesses reported she was the aggressor in a Jan. 1 domestic violence incident at an Etruria Street residence.
— Robert McLaughlin, 65, address not provided, was arrested and charged for domestic violence after being cleared by the hospital for being intoxicated following Jan.1 domestic violence incident at a Lincoln Avenue residence.
Perry Township
— Officers on patrol in the area of West Pershing Street near Georgetown Road at 3:30 a.m. Sunday located a railroad crossing sign and pole in the roadway. Officers moved the sign and advised Norfolk Southern.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of North Indiana Boulevard at 5:29 p.m. Saturday for a juvenile complaint. The caller advised officers of concerns they had for a juvenile that had come to their property. Officers attempted contact in the 500 block of Wisconsin Avenue.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of West State Street at 8:52 a.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that there had been an issue with their son over not having hot water before they left the residence, and that they had made suicidal comments prior to leaving the residence. Officers located the man in front of a business, who continued to walk away and ignore officer commands while covering his face before fleeing from officers on foot. During a pursuit on foot officers deployed a taser, striking the man with one barb. He was later located again near another business with assistance from Salem officers and was taken to the ground where he continued to resist and was detained. The man was transported by EMT for medical attention and charges are pending.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of State Boulevard at 5:02 a.m. Saturday for a report of criminal damage. The caller advised that their friend was drinking and had damaged her vehicle, and that he had kicked her multiple times in the face when she tried to stop him. The friend was picked up by an unknown party before officers arrived, and the caller refused medical treatment. Officers collected photos to document the damage.
— Officers spoke to a person by phone at 5:26 p.m. Thursday for a report of telephone harassment. The caller advised they’d received at least 12 calls that day from an unknown person that sounded threatening in nature. She advised that she blocked the number, but they continued to call back from a “private number.” The incident is under investigation.
Salem
— Officers responded to the Salem Regional Medical Center at 3:45 a.m. Saturday for a report of a possible assault which occurred a week ago. The caller advised that their ex-boyfriend would kick their knees and thought it was funny. She was unable to provide any dates but believed the most recent incident was a week ago. She agreed to provide a written statement and also wanted to have them trespassed from her residence.
— Officers responded to the 2400 block of East State Street at 2:10 a.m. Saturday for a reported suspicious person. Officers were advised that the person was inside the dumpster of a business. Officers spoke with the person and advised them to leave the property and not to return.
— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 8:11 p.m. Friday for a report of suspicious activity. Officers were advised that earlier that day the Columbiana County Drug Enforcement Task Force had conducted a search warrant at the business, and it was then closed down by the health department. When officers arrived, they observed the business to be open with several customers inside. Officers spoke with an employee who advised that they were told by the health department that the business could remain open until Monday.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of South Lundy Avenue at 5:08 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile issue. Officers were advised of juveniles inside a vacant structure. Officers spoke with the juveniles and advised them the building was not structurally sound and not to go into it for safety, and the juveniles advised that they would not do so anymore.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East State Street at 2:05 p.m. Friday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that an employee had possibly witnessed a drug deal between two males. Officers spoke with one of the men who advised that the other had handed him a cigarette. A voluntary search of the man was conducted and nothing illegal was located.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of Woodland Avenue at 12:47 p.m. Friday for a reported juvenile issue. The caller advised that the juvenile was highly upset, yelling, and breaking things. When officers arrived, they found that the juvenile had not gone to school due to possibly being sick and got upset when he was advised he was not allowed to leave the residence. The juvenile’s guardian advised that they had a call into the juvenile’s probation officer but needed the incident on file.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of South Barclay Avenue at 11:25 a.m. Friday for a report of fraud. The caller advised that someone unknown to them had attempted to access their bank account. Officers advised them of the options for dealing with the situation.
— Officers responded to the 2300 block of East State Street at 9:52 a.m. Friday to assist the Columbiana County Drug Enforcement Task Force with a search warrant. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with the involved parties and advised them to remain civil and to stay away from each other.
