Police
County Sheriff
— A fight was reported at a Ridge Road address at 11:12 p.m. Friday. William Willis and his girlfriend, Nicole Spring, were there and Willis appeared to be under the influence. He told deputies he got into an argument on Facebook with his cousin Macy Willis and Sydney Huffnagle about an old motorcycle which was stolen. Harsh words and threats were made and William Willis invited them to come fight. They came over and Macy Willis reportedly came up from behind him and grabbed him, then Huffnagle rushed at him and a fight broke out. Huffnagle reportedly got back into his vehicle and threatened to shoot them. Deputies warned Willis for inciting violence for inviting them to his house to fight.
— Gary Wayne Eichler, state Route 45, Salem, was stopped on Woodsdale Road just north of Coffee School Road by Sheriff Ray Stone. K-9 Jesy was called to check around the vehicle for drugs, but nothing was found.
— A vehicle was reported stopped in the middle of the roadway northbound on state Route 11 at 9:12 p.m. Sunday. Deputies found Marco Joseph, who said he argued with his father, Mark Joseph. The father pulled the key from the ignition while they were driving 70 mph. Marco Joseph said he then grabbed the key from his father before throwing it into a field. Other family members brought a spare key.
— Sarah Lynn Schwartz, Pittsburgh, Pa., reported at 5:36 p.m. Sunday she had been at Shaker Woods Festival and when she came out to the parking area, she noticed damage to the front fender of her vehicle.
— Sharon K. Gentry, Grant Street, Lisbon, reported littering at 10 a.m. Friday. Charles Gentry showed deputies a large barrel full of garbage and litter someone left on the back of their property. Deputies found an address in the barrel belonging to someone living in the trailer across the street. Leilonnie Lewis-Dickson, Grant Street, admitted to leaving trash in there, believing it was a burn barrel for her to use. She agreed to get the mess cleaned up by Monday.
— State troopers stopped a vehicle at 9:39 p.m. Friday. James Carlton Argabright II, Oak Grove Road, Wellsville, and Shania Davis, Depot Road, Lisbon, were found in the vehicle together. Davis has an active protection order against Argabright and he was taken into custody, charged with violating a protection order.
— A Hawkins Road couple reported their 17-year-old son was out of control at 7:48 a.m. Friday, breaking things up in the house, punching holes in the walls, damaging the garage doors and trying to cut his own wrists. The boy was taken to the emergency room by Columbiana EMS. He reportedly was upset his parents want him to finish school instead of dropping out to take a job at the Rogers Sale.
Highway Patrol
— Harley Lee Davis, 22, South Lundy Avenue, Salem, was southbound on Depot Road in Butler Township at 11:47 p.m. Friday and went off the left side into a ditch. He was cited for failure to control.
— Shawn Patrick Scott Greathouse Jr., 16, Walnut Street, Leetonia, was eastbound on Butcher Road in Salem Township at 10:43 p.m. Friday and went off the right side and then off the left side into a ditch. He was cited for failure to control.
East Palestine
— Someone reported anonymously at 12:15 p.m. Saturday a dog owned by Timothy Gibson was running at large again in the West Main Street area. Police found Gibson after he had already retrieved his dog at his home and warned him of the complaint and possible forthcoming citation for dogs at large.
— Someone reported anonymously at 12:21 a.m. Saturday they found a small black dog running loose on West Martin Street. The dog was returned to its owner, Sheryl Tomor, later that afternoon. Police warned Tomor for dogs at large.
— Brittany Wade of New Jersey requested at 4:21 p.m. Saturday police check on the welfare of her sister who lived somewhere in East Palestine. Police found that her sister no longer lived in the village but may be living in Salem. Wade contacted the Salem Police Department.
Lisbon
— Zachary Strub, West Washington Street, reported someone knocked on his door at 4:25 a.m. Sunday, and this is a recurring problem. He described the person who did it as tall, but the heavy fog prevented him from getting a better look.
— A hypodermic needle was found near a gas pump at Smith Oil at 6:32 p.m. Sunday.
— William Styen reported Friday someone stole his medications while he was staying at Vernon Ballard’s residence on North Market Street.
— Police were called to a domestic dispute on Maple Street Extension at 11:28 a.m. Friday, where Mary Shaulis said she did not want Kevin Kriss in her home. Kriss was gone by the time police arrived, and Shaulis was advised how to obtain a protection order.
— Edward H. Sprouse, 54, Applegate Road, Lisbon, pulled from Moore Street and into the path of an oncoming vehicle driven by Wilbert R. Blatch, 60, Black Road, Lisbon, resulting in an accident at 11:47 a.m. Friday.
— A caller reported someone in a green Toyota was driving erratically on East Lincoln Way a 6:36 p.m. Sunday, and the officer arrived to find the other motorist pointing to the Toyota and saying, “He’s the one.” Police stopped the driver, Christopher Knarr, who said he was driving for Precision Runners LLC and making a bank delivery. Knarr admitted he was checking his GPS while looking for Home Savings Bank. The officer saw money bags in the back seat, and police spoke with Knarr’s boss, who confirmed his story. Knarr smelled of alcohol and, after initially denying he had been drinking, he told the officer he had one beer about 2 p.m. Knarr showed no signs of impairment and said he had serious back and ankle injuries that prevented him performing the balance tests, which was also confirmed in a phone call to his boss. Knarr was then told he needed to pay more attention to where he is driving and less on his GPS.
— Scott Bryan was picked up on an arrest warrant from the Carroll County sheriff’s office following a traffic stop on East Lincoln Way at 12:55 a.m. Saturday.
— A caller reported there was a suspicious vehicle behind the Scratch restaurant at 4:27 p.m. Saturday, and the occupant appeared to be watching the manager, who had stepped outside. While enroute to the scene, police saw the vehicle leaving and there were four people inside. The manager said when she stepped outside the people in the vehicle pulled their hands back into the vehicle along with whatever they were holding and then left.
— Lauren Fisher reported Saturday her phone went missing while she was passed out drunk .
— McKenzie Strub, West Washington Street, reported hearing someone knocking on her back door at 12:46 a.m. Friday. Police checked the area but did not see anyone about.
— Police responded to a possible domestic dispute on Maple Street at 5:24 p.m. Friday, and Eric Colon reported he had been arguing with his mother, but nothing more. The parties did not wish to pursue charges, and police remained until Colon and his wife left.
— Police responded to a report of someone yelling at 127 N. Market St. at 5:19 p.m. Friday and arrived to find Cody A. Frazee, 24, of Pickerington, who was described as living in the CAA’s homeless shelter on Maple Street. Frazee had been thrown out and was staying with his friend, Vernon Ballard, along with Lauren Fisher. Frazee accused people in the household of stealing his medication and he was told to leave after reportedly making threats. Frazee left but police were called back after he reportedly returned and took plants from its pots and planters, Ballard and Fisher said Frazee was responsible. Frazee told police, “I’m mad, dude. Those (expletive) stole my medicine, and I need it. You’d be mad, too.” Frazee admitted uprooting the plants and was arrested for criminal damaging.
— Police received a call about a Pendleton Street resident contemplating hurting herself at 11:54 p.m. Friday. Police arrived and spoke to the woman, who did not appear or sound suicidal. There was a domestic dispute between the woman and her husband about an incident at the bar between the woman and another man. The woman decided to leave for the night, and a friend arrived to give her a ride.
Columbiana
— Someone reported around 3 a.m. Sunday a group of kids were in front of the Circle K. Police checked, saw the kids run away from the area and were unable to catch them. Police are waiting for surveillance footage from the business to attempt to identify the children.
Leetonia
— An officer responded to the Leetonia K-12 campus in reference to an alarm drop at 6:05 a.m. Saturday. The building was found to be empty and a teacher was able to disable the alarm.
— A 300 Columbia Street resident reported at 11 a.m. Saturday someone overnight had stolen her trash cans and trash which may have contained personal information of the residents at the home. She said she did not know who might have stolen the cans or why.
— An officer responded to the 600 block of Columbia Street at 3:21 p.m. Saturday where a large tree had fallen on a vehicle and was blocking the roadway.
Goshen Police District
— An officer responded to an alarm drop at a 9000 block Calla Road home at 9:07 p.m. Thursday, but found it secure.
— An officer responded to a First Street, Beloit, business at 10:45 p.m. Thursday where the owner reported someone had entered his vehicle between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. that night and removed the business’s money bag, which had all the money from that night’s delivery.
— An officer responded to a 12000 block Salem-Warren Road home at 1:21 p.m. Friday where the resident said she saw on a surveillance video via her cell phone a silver vehicle and two females walking around the home’s perimeter. The officer was unable to find the vehicle and individuals in question.
— An 11000 block Call Road resident reported at 10:10 a.m. Saturday that a neighbor had been burning plastic.
— Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on Lisbon Road at Roller Road at 2:22 p.m. Sunday in which a motorcycle driven by William J. Emler Jr., 60, Youngstown, had slid on gravel and struck the rear of another motorcycle driven by Ronald D. Runion, 71, Poland. A 60-year-old female passenger of Emler was ejected from the rear of the motorcycle and was transported by Green Township EMS to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Youngstown with non-life threatening injuries.
— Officers responded to the area of 18th Street and Maryland in Sebring at 10:52 p.m. Sunday to assist Sebring police on a traffic stop in which an officer had been injured. Upon arrival, the officers found a Smith Township officer had broken an ankle while attempting to arrest one of the passengers. One male was in custody in the rear of a Sebring cruiser and another one was irate and face down on the sidewalk in custody. Both were found to be intoxicated. The Goshen officers stood by until the men were under control and on their way to the Mahoning County Justice Center.
— An officer responded to the 9000 block of Western Reserve Road at 1:55 a.m. Monday in reference to a 911 hang up in which a woman stated a male at the home was suicidal. The phone was found to be disconnected when the dispatcher attempted to call back. Upon arrival, the officer found a Mahoning County sheriff’s deputy also attempting to locate the home. After talking to residents in the area, the officers determined the home did not exist and they were unable to find the source of the call.
— Officers responded to the area of state Route 14 and Middletown Road at 11:23 a.m. Monday in reference to an overturned semi. The driver said he was uninjured and a wrecker was on the way to the scene. The Ohio State Highway Patrol handled the investigation.
East Liverpool
— Called at 3:14 a.m. Sunday morning to Orchard Grove for reports of loud music, officers spoke with Linda McKinnon, 24, Russell Lane, who they said was intoxicated and told them she was watching the house for a relative and would have the noise turned down. At 4:29 a.m., officers were called back to the address for a fight in the middle of the street, where they saw several people running away, McKinnon standing on the sidewalk and Joshua E. Brooks, 25, Riverview Street, lying on the ground. McKinnon told officers she didn’t know who ran but that they were juveniles. Officers heard a noise coming from inside the house and then saw a 17-year-old boy and 16-year-old girl hiding in the bushes. They smelled of alcohol, had slurred speech and could barely walk, according to reports. They were taken by cruiser to Minerva Street where the boy’s mother, Natasha Johnson, 35, said the girl had been staying with them for three years because her parents abandoned her and they were supposed to be staying at a friend’s house that night. She was charged with a parental responsibility offense and told the juvenile court will contact her about her son. Officers reported that Johnson’s residence is a “constant problem” due to juvenile issues including suspected drinking, drug use, curfew violations and neighborhood complaints.
— Bridget Bader, no address listed, told officers she was driving south on state Route 11 between Calcutta and the city when a vehicle passed her driven by a female she knows who made an obscene gesture and nearly struck Bader’s vehicle. When Bader reached her mother’s house on Lee Street, her mother said a family member against whom Bader has a restraining order called and said if she ever did that again – referring to the incident on state Route 11 – he would shoot her. She told police the woman in the car must have lied to him about what happened and she wanted the incident documented.
— Officers were called by East Liverpool City School District officials about a sexual predator being present at a back to school event. In speaking with the man, he told officers he has no restrictions on his status other than having to report his address, which they confirmed through the county sheriff’s office’s sexual registry. School officials were advised of this.
— East Liverpool City Hospital contacted police to report treating a female who reported being raped in her home two days prior. The case was referred to the detectives’ bureau.
— Mark Kindsvatter, North Street, reported someone ripped off two boards covering a window in his garage but no entry was made.
Liverpool Township
— After receiving several complaints of suspected drug activity at 328 Wood Alley, officers went to the residence and spoke to the home owner Melinda Christy, who gave permission for them to search the residence. Eric McQueen and a woman were found inside, along with a digital scale with residue on a living room table and suspected marijuana on the couch. McQueen reportedly said the scale was his and said he sleeps in the living room. He was charged with possession of marijuana with charges pending in regard to possession of drug paraphernalia.
Wellsville
— David Thompson, 15th Street, reported Friday someone took his phone from his unlocked vehicle sometime either Aug. 16-17.
— Police were called around 11 p.m. Friday to an Independence Square apartment regarding suspected drug activity. The caller said there was a lot of traffic coming from the apartment, and said a woman was sitting in a car while a man was in the apartment. Officers made contact with the woman, who said she dropped her boyfriend off to visit with family and was waiting for him
— Police were called at 12:52 p.m. Saturday and arrived on Fourth Street and heard screaming coming from a home. Amber Engle said her daughter, Sadie Wolfe, would not let her 6-year-old little sister — Engle’s youngest daughter — leave with her. Wolfe said the girl did not want to return with Engle to her Independence Square apartment, which Wolfe and Terri Sayre stated was not fit for a child. They said dishes are never done and garbage is all over the apartment. Wolfe and Sayre asked officers if they could inspect Engle’s apartment, but Engle refused. The case will be forwarded to Children’s Services.
— Police were called at 2:45 p.m. Saturday to Pep’s Carryout on Clark Avenue regarding a fight. Tyler McDevitt said he was assaulted by a man known to him.
— Brenda Brush reported someone stole her her black 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt while she was at a youth football game at the football field on Danbury Street between 4-7 p.m. Saturday.
— Police were called at 10:57 p.m. Saturday to Rich Oil on Third Street. A Buick Rendezvous had jumped the curb, hitting the propane cage. The driver, a 17-year-old boy, was not cited.
— Amber Engle, Independence Square, reported at 1:30 p.m. Sunday her daughter, Sadie Wolfe, came to her apartment to get her daughter. She said Wolfe was banging on the door, and when she was not let in, she broke the mailbox off the building. Engle declined to press charges.
Salem
— Police were called for an ambulance needed at 2:35 a.m. Monday in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue where a man said he was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male near his residence. He appeared to have a broken hand and was intoxicated. He was taken to SRMC.
— A fight in progress with possible weapons was reported at 9:54 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Vine Street. When police arrived, all involved were told to drop everything and place their hands where officers could see them. The people were separated and all parties said there was only a verbal altercation. Several witnesses said threats were made by both parties, but no one wanted to press charges. All were told to stay away from one another, with some told to leave while others went inside.
— Police responded at 8:55 p.m. Sunday to the 1000 block of Cleveland Street for a domestic. A man said he got into an argument with a woman who said she was locked out of the residence when she was placing her belongings inside her vehicle. The man said he would leave so she could stay, however he had been drinking and was advised not to drive due to possibly being impaired. The woman gathered clothing for the evening and left.
— Police responded to a vicious dog complaint at 7:16 p.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of East Third Street. A woman said her neighbor’s dog ran after her smaller dog. The owner of the larger dog said the smaller dog was not on a leash and was on his front lawn when his dog went over to it. Both parties were advised of the city leash ordinance.
— An intoxicated driver was reported at 6:22 p.m. Sunday at North Lincoln Avenue and East 14th Street, but the vehicle was not found.
— An irate patient was reported at 6:02 p.m. Sunday at the SRMC. When police arrived, the female had been released and was outside. She said she was upset and just wanted to go home. She was told she was free to go.
— Two juveniles were reported on the roof of the Salem Fun Factory building on Pershing at 5:33 p.m. Sunday. The juveniles took off running before officers arrived and could not be found.
— No citation was issued after an accident at the intersection of East Third and North Lincoln Sunday. The vehicles had been moved and officers were unable to determine fault. Both drivers said they entered the intersection first and the crash occurred in the center of the intersection. The report said Charles Fisher, 74, of Berlin Center, was northbound on North Lincoln Avenue and Juarez Moises Quixan, 21, of Cedar Ridge, was westbound on East Third Street.
— Jonathan Shellenberger, 27, of 193 W. Eighth St., was charged with domestic violence and possession of marijuana after police responded to the 700 block of North Howard Avenue at 4:19 p.m. Sunday to look for a person involved in a previous domestic. With assistance of several citizens, the man in question was located walking on North Howard Avenue. When taken into custody, officers located a small bag of suspicious marijuana on him. Shellenberger was processed and taken to jail. Police had been called at 1 p.m. to the Eighth Street property where a woman reported an argument escalated into physical violence with her live-in boyfriend. He had left before officers arrived and then was tracked down to Howard.
— Jonathan Barnhouse, 22, of 807 Franklin, was charged with theft and taken to the Columbiana County jail after police were called to Walmart at 2:11 p.m. Sunday for a shoplifting complaint. Asset protection personnel said a male tried to steal $44.27 worth of merchandise.
— Police were called at 1:36 p.m. Sunday to the 1700 block of East State Street for a report of people drinking beer inside a vehicle. The vehicle was not found.
— A woman on Oak Street told police at 12:20 p.m. Sunday she had a machete-type knife she did not want and asked if they could destroy it. Police took possession of the knife.
Perry Township
— Township police were asked to assist Salem police at 9:57 p.m. Sunday in the 200 block of Vine Avenue for a report of a large fight with possible weapons. An officer stood by until no longer needed.
Lisbon
— Rebecca Myers reported there appeared to be a fire on Hill Street at 9:17 p.m. Sunday. The fire was at the Grubbs property, where they were burning brush and kept a garden hose nearby.
West Point
–A caller reported the Gallimores were burning garbage on East Liverpool Road at 6 p.m. Saturday.
