ELFD receives $174K grant to update haz-mat equipment

EAST LIVERPOOL – East Liverpool Fire Department (ELFD) recently received a grant to update its hazardous material equipment. Fire Chief Antony Cumo said the department received a State Homeland Security Preparedness Grant in the amount of $174,432. Cumo said the department has received support through the grant for the past three to four years. Three years ago, the department received $84,000 for Area Ray monitoring equipment. Salem utilities superintendent resigns, assistant named to the position

SALEM — The utilities commission named a new superintendent during a special meeting Tuesday. The commissioners unanimously approved the resignation of Superintendent Butch Donnalley effective July 31, and the appointment of Assistant Superintendent Chad Hess as the department’s new superintendent effective Aug. 1. An Austintown native, Hess has served as Salem’s assistant superintendent since Aug. 5, 2024. Prior to that, he served as the utilities superintendent for the village of New Waterford for 12 years.
