COLUMBIANA — Upgrades are ongoing for the Columbiana School District. In addition to the improvements at the Ward Athletic Complex, the district is also continuing to update heating and air conditioning units and is looking into a roofing project. District Superintendent Dr. Don Mook briefed the board on the HVAC and roofing projects this month, after first providing a brief update on the athletic improvements. NEW WATERFORD — The village has decided to sell its two ambulances. Council this month approved a motion to put the ambulances up for sale by sealed bid. Village Mayor Shane Patrone said the ambulances were originally purchased from funds used for Fire and EMS and therefore any money received from their sale will go back into those funds. The ambulances are no longer needed due to the village halting its EMS services for now due to lack of funding and manpower. BELOIT – The West Branch school board has hired a new treasurer. The board recently approved a five-year contract to Lucas Cooper effective Aug. 1 at $104,040 annually. Cooper most recently served as treasurer for the Columbiana County Educational Service Center (CCESC), where he managed financial operations, oversaw state and federal funding, and worked closely with school leaders to promote fiscal responsibility and long-term sustainability.
