Ladies Spring Tea

The Eastern Star Crystal Chapter #18 will be sponsoring a Ladies Spring Tea on Saturday, April 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the East Liverpool Masonic Temple ballroom on 422 Broadway St. Tickets cost $25 per person. Wellsville Spring Vendor Show

The Wellsville Carnegie Public Library Spring Vendor Show will be held April 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the library located at 115 9th St. This is the inaugural Spring Vendor Show in support of the Friends of the Wellsville Library. The event will feature Armida’s Cucina Food Truck, artisan vendors, and a Chinese auction. All money raised will go toward future adult and children’s programming at the Wellsville Carnegie Public Library.

EP hydrant flushing

The East Palestine Water Department will begin flushing hydrants on Monday, April 20, and will continue throughout the week until completed. Residents may experience low pressure/discolored water periodically during the process.

George Washington portrayal

Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem will present Curt Radabaugh in a portrayal of Gen. George Washington from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 26 in the church’s educational building, 251 S. Broadway Ave. The free event will celebrate 250 years of American independence. Children are welcome and light refreshments will be served. EP Bulldog Bingo

The East Palestine Band Parents will host Bulldog Bingo on Saturday at the Lisbon Lions Club. Tickets are $25 for 10 games. Also available are 50/50, a basket raffle, and concessions. Doors will open at 3 p.m. with game play beginning at 5 p.m.

WLC Club meeting

The WLC Club met on April 7 at The Living Well Church with leader Mary Jarvis opening the meeting with our pledge, roll call and then Connie Hissam leading the group in prayer.

The best loser was Gladys Buzzard and she also wore the officers ribbon. Hissam won the dimes challenge and also the 50/50. The nono for the week is mashed potatoes. The biggest loser for the

month was Buzzard.

These members had perfect attendance for the last three months: Alice Eckstein, Peggy Imburgia, Donna Lee, Jarvis, Betty Pease, Barb Tranter and Brenda Young.

Jarvis then presented the yearly awards: Diane Carnegie for being the biggest loser for the year, Eckstein and Jarvis had perfect attendance for the year; Lee won for the most 3 in a row; Nancy Hart won for the least red marks; and Eckstein for being in the group for 53 years.

Next week the club will celebrate Eckstein’s birthday with a card shower.

Tranter read a funny and then Jarvis closed the meeting wishing all a good week.

Trailblazing Skies and Shorelines

Jamey Emmert, Avian Education Coordinator with ODNR’s Division of Wildlife, will present Trailblazing Skies and Shorelines: Ohio’s Birding Trails, a behind-the-scenes look at Ohio’s birding trail program, Audubon Society/Mahoning Valley meeting April 28. Social time is at 6:30 p.m. with the program at 7 p.m. at the Austintown Senior Center, 112 Westchester Drive. This engaging program weaves together conservation and adventure, highlighting how the trails protect wildlife and support local communities, and showcases some of the state’s most remarkable, and sometimes overlooked, birding hotspots.

TQGIBT meeting

That Quilt Group I Belong To (TQGIBT) will meet at 7 p.m. April 21 at The Rotary Building at Fair Park on Oak Street in Canfield. Guild President Carolyn Artle will demonstrate using decorative stitches on a sewing machine, laces, trims and doilies to create heirloom blocks for a Block of the Month quilt. Scholarship applications

The Rebecca Bricker Scholarship Committee and the Sebring – West Branch Area Community Foundation announced applications are now available for the college educational scholarship. Bricker was a longtime kindergarten teacher with the West Branch Local School District. Her teaching skills touched many area students and gave them a head start in their educational life. Candidates for the scholarship must be current sophomores or juniors at the college level and must be majoring in elementary education or a related field (art, music, physical education, reading specialist, etc). The applicant must have a 2.2 college grade point average. Two scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded with preference being given to college students majoring K-4 education. Application forms and a list of required documents are available at the West Branch website www.westbranch.k12.oh.us. Applications and related materials can also be requested from keithmartig@gmail.com. All application materials must be submitted to the scholarship committee by July 15.

Spring in CC bicycle tour

COLUMBIANA – Bicyclists from across the region will gather here on May 3 to celebrate spring by participating in a three-decade-long touring tradition.

The annual tour, known as Spring in Columbiana County, Ohio, (SICCO), originated in 1995. It is sponsored by the Out-Spokin’ Wheelmen bicycling club.

The event, in which all cyclists are invited to ride, will begin at 8 a.m. at Mirror Lake Pavilion in Firestone Park, 347 E. Park Ave., Columbiana.

The main cycling routes are 31- or 34-mile loops through small towns and scenic countryside, which include the Little Beaver Creek Greenway Trail.

Participants will ride at their own paces over the marked, color-coded loops between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., with support vehicles available for riders needing assistance.

SICCO will be held rain or shine.

A snack stop will be at the rail station in historic downtown Lisbon.

After completing the 31- or 34-mile loop, riders will receive lunch.

New to SICCO this year is a chili cook-off, in which riders can vote for their favorite chili.

After lunch, participants can ride an additional 28-mile loop to achieve a total of up to 62 miles.

The fee is $30 for advance registration or $35 on the day of the event.

The ride fee includes the snack and lunch.

Helmets must be worn.

MVHS calls for Historic Preservation Award Nominees

YOUNGSTOWN – Mahoning Valley Historical Society (MVHS) announces the annual Historic Preservation Awards program for outstanding revitalization projects and people who have made an impact on preservation in the local community. The MVHS Historic Preservation Awards are underwritten by the Schwebel Family Foundation.

Call-for-entry details are being sent to members and various businesses, organizations, government offices and individuals across the Valley, but anyone can nominate a project. After a judging process is completed in May, which is National Historic Preservation Month, award winners will be recognized during the MVHS 151st Annual Membership Meeting on June 23.

Over 70 projects and individuals have received a Historic Preservation Award since 2005, the year of its inception. Digital submissions must be received by Thursday, April 30. All complete entries will be judged by a special panel of local experts in early May. Winning submissions will include property owners, project designers/managers, or individuals who have made significant accomplishments in local preservation, along with their nominators. Eligible projects must have been completed by March 1.

Free Garden Speaker Series

OSU Extension Mahoning County, in partnership with Flying High, will host a Free Garden Speaker Series designed to educate community members on gardening techniques and food preparation using homegrown ingredients. The series will take place throughout the spring and summer months at 100 Broadway Avenue in Youngstown.

Each session will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and will provide participants with hands-on learning opportunities focused on growing, maintaining, and utilizing garden produce. Attendees will also have the opportunity to sample simple dishes prepared with ingredients highlighted in each session.

The 2026 session topics include:

April 30 – Stir-Fry Garden

May 14 – One-Pot Garden (Container Gardening)

June 25 – Healthy Soulful Garden

July 23 – Grow Your Own BBQ Seasonings

Aug. 13 – Pickling Garden Favorites

The program is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to dress for outdoor conditions, as sessions will be held rain or shine. Seating will be provided. In the event of severe weather, cancellations will be announced by 10 a.m. on the Mahoning County Extension Facebook page.

Angels for Animals Garage Sale

CANFIELD – The 2026 Angels for Animals Annual Garage Sale will be held this weekend at the Canfield Fairgrounds.

The sale begins Friday with the Early Bird event. Individuals can purchase a $10 wristband as early as 7 a.m., but buildings will not open until 9 a.m. The early bird sale will be available from 9 a.m. to noon.

Beginning at noon Friday, individuals donate $3 to enter all buildings until 5 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. Sunday shopping is free from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. when all buildings are cleared. Individuals then can purchase a $20 pass allowing them to enter the buildings at 2:15 p.m. and load their bags, cars, trucks with any items they wish to take home until 4 p.m.

Cash only. No pets, strollers, carts or wagons permitted in buildings during the sale.

Concession are available during the entire event. Several vendors have requested to join in efforts and can be found on the streets between buildings. The Garage Sale fills seven different buildings at the Canfield Fairgrounds: Men’s Worlds, Furniture, Household Items, Books and .50 World, Clothing & Linens, Antiques and Uniques, Kids Korner and Pets Plus.

‘East Good, Feel Good’

Community members looking to improve their health and wellness are invited to attend the “Eat Good, Feel Good” educational series hosted by Ohio State University Extension.

This free, three-session program will take place on May 6, May 13, and May 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at Bunker Hill Methodist Church.

The series focuses on simple, practical ways to improve daily eating habits and overall well-being. Participants will learn easy, realistic strategies to make healthier food choices that fit their lifestyles.

“What you eat matters–and it can change how you feel every day,” organizers emphasize. Attendees are encouraged to participate in all three sessions to gain the most benefit, including tips, tricks, and ideas they can apply immediately.

The program is open to the public at no cost, but advance registration is required and space is limited.
