Southern FFA Week scheduled
SALINEVILLE — The Southern Local High School FFA organization has some fun festivities in place for its annual FFA Week celebration.
Advisor Shelley Pirogowicz said activities include themed dress-up days with a hat day fundraiser slated to begin Monday. For $1, students may don a topper each day with proceeds to benefit the Salineville Community Food Pantry. Stamps will also be given during first period. Dress-up themes include FFA Pride Day on Monday with FFA shirts or official dress; Truck Day on Tuesday with students wearing shirts bearing the colors of their favorite vehicle, such as black for Dodge, blue for Ford, and red for Chevy; Ohio State/Land-Grant Day on Wednesday with kids wearing college gear; Farmer Day on Thursday with flannel or Carhartt items; and Blue and Corn Gold Day (FFA colors) on Friday.
The week concludes with the Ag Olympics in which students will partake in fun sporting and obstacle events in the high school gym. Pirogowicz said events include an egg relay, bale toss, and musical buckets. Money is also being collected throughout the week and a lucky (or unlucky) student and faculty member will be fated to participate in the Kiss-A-Critter contest. Staff and students in grades 6-12 were nominated while cash and coins are collected in each person’s name, and the top earners smooch a selected animal at the conclusion of the ag event on Friday.
“We have averaged about $250 a year [with the fundraisers],” Pirogowicz added, saying that proceeds have benefitted various causes from the food pantry to Akron Children’s Hospital.
