Beloit council seats
The Village of Beloit is accepting letters of interest for two council seats and one board of public affairs which will be vacant after Dec. 31. Residents must be a resident of the village for at least one year. The letters may be mailed to Mayor Augustein, P.O. Box 276 Beloit OH 44609 or emailed to mayor@villageofbeloitohio.com. Letters must be received by Dec. 29.
Village council will meet Dec. 29 at 6:30 p.m. to interview for captain, lieutenant and fire chief positions. The year end meeting will follow at 7 p.m., immediately followed by the organizational meeting.
Banquet in Salem
The Dine in or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Monday at the Salem Memorial Building will be sponsored by Fresh Mark. The menu will include ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, applesauce, fresh vegetables and fruit, and cookies. Dine in will park in designated area behind the building and proceed to front door. Drive thru will line up in lot behind the building; one meal per individuals in the vehicle. No parking in the library lot. There will be no 4th Thursday Banquet on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. East Palestine CIC
The East Palestine CIC will hold a special meeting at noon Monday at the municipal building for the purpose of reviewing proposals from Platz Realty Group for listing of the old Jasar property as well as Brock Builders for the demolition of existing structures at the EPCIC Plaza at 74 N. Market St.
Columbiana Middle School
The Columbiana South Side Middle School on being ranked 58 out of 975 Middle Schools in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 Ohio rankings. With a reading performance above expectations (state rank of 102) and math performance well above expectations (state rank of 42), the middle school topped Columbiana County with an overall score of 94.5/100. In 2024, The U.S. Department of Education named Columbiana South Side Middle School as one of 14 National Blue Ribbon Schools in Ohio.
