Leetonia BOE approves fire protection system upgrade

LEETONIA — The K-12 building on the village school district’s just got the green light for an upgrade to its fire protection system Wednesday night.

Leetonia school board members agreed to spend $20,512 with AEI (Arrow Electric Inc.) of Greenville, Pa. to demo their existing Simple fire alarm panel and install and program a new Autocall 4100ES fire system.

The price includes making sure that the system is completely functioning and user training.

The existing wiring and notification devices are being used in the current system unless found to be problematic.

Any needed performance bounds or permits are not included in the cost.

Upon signing the contract, half down is due.

The Leetonia school board also:

— Accepted $600 in donations for scholarship and cheerleading funds.

— Approved a contract modification for cook Susan Shuman from 3 to 3.5 hours for the 2024-25 school year effective Feb. 17;

— Approved three days of unpaid leave for Carrie Roller;

— Accepted the resignation of teacher Brad Katzman effective July 31.

— Approved Megan Cala as head cook for a limited contract for this school year and Kayla Percy as a three-hour cook pending background checks.

— Non-renewed all supplemental contracts at the conclusion of year.

— Approved supplemental contracts pending background checks and verification of certifications for Alicia Kline, head softball coach; Nicholas Fellure, boys head track coach; Alexis Seman, girls head track coach and head cross country coach; Glen Windram, junior high track coach and Molly Coffee for Saturday School monitor.

— Approved game workers Jessica Neil, Vincent Ankrom and Logan Simms.

— Approved certificated substitutes Matt Burns (also classified, retroactively as of Jan. 31), Nathan Millson (also classified), Bonnie Missos, Leeann Chandler and Emmalee Williams.

— Approved the resolution, authorizing continued membership in the Ohio High School Athletic Association for the 2025-26 school year.

— Approving the Eastern Ohio Basketball League (EOYBL)’s us of facilities Feb. 22-23 in the main and small gyms retroactively;

— Approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the district and Youngstown State University for the College Credit Plus program in the upcoming school year.

— Approved the renewal of Beverly Berger as a trustee for the Leetonia Community Public Library through December 2031.

— Approved the statewide admission of students participating under interdistrict open enrollment for the 2025-26 school year.
