Perry trustees OK annexation agreement for new school building
PERRY TOWNSHIP — The board of trustees approved an annexation agreement for the Salem City School District’s new K-8 school building.
Discussed at length in the board’s June 23 meeting, trustees voted unanimously to approve an agreement with the city of Salem for the upcoming annexation of the approximately 67-acre property which will be the site of the district’s new K-8 school building. The agreement was needed to allow the project to meet its strict timeline, with Board of Trustees Chair Steve Bailey noting that the property was always intended to be annexed when voters approved the levy to fund its construction. Trustees Jim Armeni and Tony Ieropoli also pointed out that as the property is vacant and owned by the school district, it already generates no property tax revenue for the township.
Trustees also voted unanimously to place the renewal of the township’s 1-mill police levy on the ballot for township residents to vote on in November. Bailey explained that while the trustees voted in their prior meeting to approve the renewal’s placement on the ballot, the language of the ballot item had to be updated, and trustees were approving a new resolution to ensure there wouldn’t be any issues.
Other police matters included approval to purchase three desktop computers, a server, and installation fees for the police department from Salem Computer for $13,353, with the township set to be reimbursed for $7,560 of that purchase price from a grant received by the department. Bailey noted that the department had also received a donation toward the purchase from an anonymous resident, further reducing its actual cost.
The trustees also approved a payment of $7,500 to the Perry Township Volunteer Firefighter’s Association, the first of two payments toward the $15,000 the township pays annually for fire protection in accordance with the fire protection agreement.
Other financial matters approved included the purchase of asphalt grindings from Lindy Paving for $4,600; and then and now certificates totaling $8,996 for Motorola Solutions Inc. for the purchase of the police department’s body cams, and video management, remote deployment, and configuration and project management.
The board of trustees will meet next at 4 p.m. on July 28.
