EAST LIVERPOOL – The Historical 1876 Thompson House of East Liverpool, Ohio was recently gifted with a new metal sign to replace the aging wooden one, which had graced the grounds for years.
Local artist and author, as well as member of the East Liverpool Historical Society, Craig Wetzel, purchased and donated the updated addition, which displays the society’s new 1876 logo. He refinished and repainted the existing post, and presented the sign to president of the East Liverpool Historical Society, Timothy Brookes. Brookes, who has been president of the society for 36 years, has diligently labored on the Thompson House property along with his father, Charles B. “Chick” Brookes, long-standing trustee since the 1990s, and several others since taking over his position. There are currently 12 trustees, four of whom are officers. The property, located at 305 Walnut St. in the downtown section of East Liverpool, was passed on to the ELHS in 1979. The house is included on the National Register of Historic Places.
The next community event to be held there is the “Christmas In July” outdoor movie on the lawn Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. It is $10 for all adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The house will be open for tours, and some of the rooms will be decked appropriately for the holiday. Check out the group’s Facebook site The Historical 1876 Thompson House of East Liverpool, Ohio for more details, or call 330-385-2550 with any questions.
