New hires dominate EL school board agenda
EAST LIVERPOOL — Several new faces were welcomed to the district during the school board meeting last week.
Megan Hernandez was approved as East Liverpool’s new director of communications, receiving a two-year contract at the board approved rate.
The board negotiated through the appointments with roll call votes instead of its usual voice vote, as board Vice President Mario Hernandez abstained from the vote on her employment due to a conflict of interest.
However, the other personnel went off without a hitch, including the hiring of Nate Conley as junior/senior high school associate principal; Jenna Cope, North Elementary School principal; Dominic Boyle, junior/senior high school athletic director and Sarah Yocum, new fourth-grade teacher at LaCroft Elementary School.

Cafeteria managers hired for the high school was Charity Winters and for LaCroft Elementary School Kathy Zoellers.
Board members also reduced one seven-hour bus aide to five hours to satisfy the structure of new bus routes within the district.
In his absence, board members also approved board treasurer Anson Wiegand’s report, which included renewal of the district’s property, liability and auto insurance with Ohio School Plan in the amount of $85,360, an agreement with K-12 Business Consulting Inc. effective July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 to assist with preparation of the district’s five-year costs at a cost to exceed $6,500 and acceptance of new flooring in the high school media center at $19,775.90 with TCP Flooring.
The following resignations of longtime district employees were accepted, including Cheryl Williams, who is retiring after 27 years; Dr. Melissa Mendoza, who has served three years as a school psychologist and is relocating; Karley Herzick, who has taught with East Liverpool schools for six years; Maura Evans, who taught 10 years with the district; Daniella Sutton, who has taught within the district for six years; and Kelly Kiger, who has been a high school English teacher for three years.
Supplemental contracts were granted for Tiffany Rudibaugh, as assistant varsity volleyball coach; Tonyea Roberts, eight-grade volleyball coach; Gregg Harding as Culture Club adviser; and Jennifer Ludwig as Junior Class adviser.
Suzanne Hoppel, Mary Kaufman, Sherry Blackburn and Amber Gill all received personal development stipends of $1,000.
Board members announced plans for several meetings during the month of August, including a retreat at an unnamed location and their regular board meeting Aug. 26. More specific information will be forthcoming on both.
