65 years for East Palestine couple

EAST PALESTINE - Steve and Vera Gorby celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Jan. 20.The former Vera Smith, daughter of Vernon and France Smith, married Steve Gorby, son of Nelson and Verna Gorby, on Jan. 20, 1951 at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. James Fruit officiating.Mr. Gorby retired from Thompson coal company after 34 years as a heavy equipment operator. He is an Ohio past state officer for the Eagles.Mrs. Gorby worked at Landmark egg plant for 12 years and is a past president of the New Waterford Eagles Auxiliary 2415.The couple has four children, Gary L. WELLSVILLE - Jim and Joyce Bailey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house on Sept. 24 at the Negley Fire Hall, hosted by their children, Jim and Chris of Gilbertville, Iowa, Joe and Beth of Shorewood Ill. and Jason and Sheryl of Rogers.Mr. and Mrs. Bailey were married Sept. 19, 1965 at the old St. John Lutheran Church in East Liverpool.Three of their five grandchildren were able to attend with about 150 other guests.

EAST PALESTINE - Mary Margaret and Richard Ross will be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary with their family in Prescott, Ariz. on Nov. 12."Mick" Ross and Mary Margaret Meek were married on Nov. 12, 1955, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in East Palestine.Both natives of East Palestine, the Rosses moved to Phoenix, Ariz. in 1961, where they raised their family of six children.
