Beavers win first OVAC crown since 2001

NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — The Beaver Local softball team waited nine days to finally take a swing at its first OVAC title since 2001. It was worth the wait. Sophomore pitcher Addie Thurik struck out 16 and only allowed one baserunner in a 3-0 win over Weir High in the Class 4A title game at Oak Glen’s field. United 7, Columbiana 0 COLUMBIANA – United got back on track in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference with a 7-0 win over Columbiana on Thursday. Quentin Taylor went six strong innings for the Eagles with 11 strikeouts, but sidestepped seven walks to preserve the shutout with the help of Jason Pratt who threw a scoreless seventh. Salem and West Branch have plans in motion for their next league landing spots. The two schools have applied for positions in the Mahoning Valley-based All-American Conference and the Medina, Portage and Summit county-based Metro Athletic Conference.
