LaBrae shocks Rebels
LEAVITTSBURG — Led by Ella Kuszmaul’s 17 points, LaBrae won a share of its first league title in 45 years with a 64-52 win over Crestview on Monday in girls basketball action.
After an even first quarter, the home team put the pedal down and had a lead of 12 at the half and 12 at the end of the third quarter.
LaBrae is 19-2 and 13-1 in the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Division. The Rebels fall to 19-2 and 13-1 in the conference.
Crestview’s last loss in the league was on Jan. 5, 2023 to Garfield. The Rebels ended up going 53-2 in MVAC play with star senior Addison Rhodes in the lineup.
Rhodes led the Rebels with 20 points. Ava Bucey added 15 points.
Crestview, who earned the No. 1 seed in the Div. V Northeast regional tournament, hosts Grand Valley on Thursday.

HANOVERTON — United Local’s girls basketball team closed out its Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference slate with a 53-35 win over Valley Christian on Monday.
For the Eagles (13-8, 10-4 EOAC) Maelee Smith had 29 points, 10 rebounds and five steals. Reagan Good had seven points, 10 rebounds and three steals. McKenzie Cope had five points, three assists and two steals. Bella Thompson added four points, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals.
United Local will host East Liverpool on Thursday.

HOWLAND — Alli Kanagy’s three from the top of the key with 2.9 seconds left lifted West Branch to a 41-40 win over Howland on Monday.
Howland’s Talia Rishel hit a running two in the lane to give the Tigers a 40-38 lead with 19 seconds left.
West Branch had led by eight at half and nine at the end of the third quarter.
Audrey Eaton and Madi Hoopes each scored 10 points for West Branch. Sammi Beatty and Tallie Muniz scored 7 and 6 points, respectively.
The Warriors are 17-3 and will go to Ursuline on Wednesday.
The Tigers are 4-15.

LEETONIA –Heartland’s girls basketball team took down Leetonia 49-17 on Monday.
The Lions move to 9-10 overall, while Leetonia falls to 1-19.
The Lions will play at Lisbon on Wednesday.
Leetonia hosts Wellsville today.

EAST PALESTINE — Kealin Simon had 22 points, five rebounds and three assists as East Palestine posted a 75-25 win over Urban Scholars on Monday.
RJ May added 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals. Clark Rutledge had 10 points, six rebounds and five steals. Michael Chestnut also had a solid game with nine points, four rebounds and three steals. Drew Bycroft had seven points, seven rebounds and four steals.
