Lowry tops MAC football
KALAMAZOO, Michigan — Western Michigan redshirt sophomore quarterback Broc Lowry, who leads the Broncos in rushing and passing, is the Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Year.
He leads Western Michigan (8-4) into the MAC Championship game against Miami of Ohio (8-4) at noon Saturday at Detroit’s Ford Field.
Lowry is 146-of-230 passing (63%) for 1,572 yards and seven touchdowns with two interceptions along with 875 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on 174 carries (5.0). He has scored a team-high 86 points.
Lowry guided Canfield High School to the Ohio Division III state title in 2022.
Tigers down Indians
KENSINGTON — The Wellsville boys bowling team earned a 1,878-1,562 victory over Southern Local on Thursday at Forest Lanes.
The Tigers were led by Madelyn Landess, who posted a 233 high game and 382 series. Makayla Landess followed with a 187 game and 339 series.
Southern Local was paced by Mason Sosack, who rolled a 207 game and 325 series. David Prendergast added a 132 game and 252 series.
Salem boys fall to Perry
CANTON — The Salem boys bowling team lost to Massillon Perry, 2492-1968, Thursday at Hall of Fame Lanes.
Leaders for Salem were Donald Blackburn with game of 190 and 216 for a 412 series, Vinnie Yannucci with games of 174 and 165 for a 339 series, Tanner James with 183 game and 316 series and Luke Spielman with a 169 game and 309 series.
United tops Wellsville
WELLSVILLE — United held Wellsville to three points over the final three quarters for a 58-14 in Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference girls basketball action Thursday.
Maelee Smith totaled 25 points, eight steals and six rebounds to lead the Eagles. Bella Thompson collected 14 points and four steals, Marin Stryffeler eight points and five assists and Reagan Good grabbed seven rebounds.
The Eagles took a 28-11 lead in the first quarter as Smith scored 14 points and Thompson eight.
United improves to 1-3 overall and 1-1 in the EOAC. The Eagles will play at Columbiana on Monday.
