EAST LIVERPOOL — Southern Local freshmen Katie Kellogg and Kalayah Crute entered the season with much promise and delivered in the opener Friday night.

Kellogg and Crute combined for 31 points in the first half as the Indians routed East Liverpool, 51-17, at the Potter Fieldhouse.

Kellogg totaled 20 points, 10 steals, seven assists and five rebounds and Crute totaled 15 points and five rebounds.

Allyssa Shroades contributed six points, five assists and seven steals. Makenna Jones had six points and two rebounds and Haylee Kellogg grabbed five rebounds.

The Indians led 15-2 in the first quarter and 43-17 at halftime.

LaNease Andrews scored 10 points and Courtney Baker five for the Potters.

There was no junior varsity contest.

Southern will play at Toronto on Monday. The junior high will start at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity-only contest at 6:30 p.m.

CALCUTTA — Beaver Local’s girls basketball team opened the season with a 47-26 win over St. Clairsville on Friday.

Ally Wright paced the winners with 14 points, while Mallory Miller scored 10 points.

Beaver Local hosts Columbiana on Wednesday.

In jayvee action, Beaver Local bested Lisbon 28-13. Macie Bourne had six points for the Beavers. Sofia Brown had eight points for Lisbon.
