Clippers drop Eagles
HANOVERTON — United’s volleyball team made Columbiana work for it early, but the Clippers pulled away for a 17-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-17 win on Tuesday in a key Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball match.
The Clippers are 14-1 and 11-0 in the league and will have a chance to clinch a share of their third straight league title at home on Thursday against Leetonia.
For the Clippers, Eva Waller had 34 assists, two kills, three aces, nine points and eight digs. Landry Smith had 14 kills, three blocks and five points. Addisyn Dangler had 10 kills, two aces, two blocks, 15 points and six digs. Evy Rapp had six kills, seven points and nine digs. Layla McCarthy had 15 digs. Hailee Gomoll chipped in four digs and two aces.
United falls to 12-4 and 8-2 in the conference. The Eagles are at East Palestine on Thursday.
For the Eagles, Rileah Phillips had four aces. Baylee Smith added 21 digs.
United won the jayvee match, 25-14, 25-14.
Lily Erb had five kills for the winners. Miley Pitts added five points and two aces. Scarlett Courtney had seven points and three aces.
Ava Marks had eight kills for the Clippers, while Ella Eisenbraun and Mikah Montgomery had five assists each. Sylvia Rapp had eight digs.
Crestview 3, Brookfield 0
BROOKFIELD — Crestview moved within one match of clinching at least a share of the Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference Gray Divison after a commanding 25-12, 25-22, 25-15 win over Brookfield on Tuesday.
For the Rebels (15-0, 11-0 in the MVAC Gray), Lainy Auer had 31 kills, while Sophia Stewart added 33 assists. Sophia Dattilio had four kills and Kerrigan Miller had 14 digs.
Second-place LaBrae and Garfield have two losses in the league. Crestview can clinch with home win over Champion on Tuesday.
Crestview won the jayvee portion, 25-15, 25-10. Phiatra Bradley had four kills and three aces. Kelsey Houp added five aces and three kills. Madeline English had five digs and three kills.
Lisbon 3, Southern 1
SALINEVILLE — Lisbon spiked Southern 25-14, 18-25, 25-19, 25-17 on Tuesday.
For Lisbon (8-8, 6-5 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference), Maddie Marshalek had 12 kills, 11 digs and 16 points. Addison Anderson had eight kills and 15 digs. Alayna Householder had six kills and 11 digs. Hannah Davis had 22 digs, while Abby Ammon had 15 digs and three kills. Stefanee Stacey had eight kills, 30 assists and 15 points.
For the Indians (8-7, 6-5), Addy Martin had 10 points. Haylee Kellogg had nine points and eight assists. Katie Kellogg had eight points and 12 kills. Allyssa Shroades had 10 assists and four kills.
Southern won the jayvee portion, 25-17, 25-19. Eliana Forbes had 14 points and 10 asssists. Khloe Ensinger had five kills.
For Lisbon, Brooklynn Klein had five kills and an ace, while Delaney Pickens had three kills, Aria Reckner five digs, four points and two aces, Johanna Ford nine digs and Gracyn Owens 12 assists and five points.
Lisbon hosts Wellsville on Thursday.
Southern hosts Valley on Thursday.
East Palestine 3, Wellsville 0
WELLSVILLE — East Palestine rallied after dropping the opening set to defeat Wellsville 18-25, 25-22, 25-18, 25-19 on Tuesday night.
Cami Kridler paced the Bulldogs (7-7, 6-4 in the Eastern Ohio Athletic Conference) with 20 assists, nine digs and 12 points. Marley Blythe added 25 digs, nine kills, 11 points and five aces, while Amara Wilson had 10 kills and nine digs. Alyssa Dilling chipped in 19 digs and four points, and Kennedy Andre contributed 13 digs, 10 assists, nine points and two aces.
There was no JV match. East Palestine hosts United on Thursday.
Beaver Local 3, Oak Glen 2
NEW MANCHESTER, W.Va. — Beaver Local survived a hard-fought five-set match against Oak Glen on Tuesday night with a 25-23, 25-23, 22-25, 24-26, 15-11 win.
Beaver Local is 14-1, while Oak Glen fell to 15-7-3. Even though this was the only regular season match scheduled between the two, this might not be the last they see of each. The Beavers started off the night in first place in the OVAC Class 4A standings while Oak Glen was third.
Addie Thurik paced the Beavers with nine kills. Bria Boyd had 46 assists, three kills and an ace, while Eva McKnight tallied 10 kills, three digs and four blocks. Giada Williams added nine kills, two digs and four blocks, and Sydney McNear had 11 kills and three digs. Lily Schrieber chipped in 11 kills, three aces and eight digs. Karsyn Bowyer anchored the defense with 17 digs and three aces. Perri Gilson had eight digs and two aces, and Taylor Pease recorded five digs and an ace.
Oak Glen was led by Averi Martin with 17 kills. Brooklyn Six and Brayley Lash each had 14 kills, while Haylee Stewart added 10. Mikalyn Balch dished out 52 assists and collected eight digs. Keira Vick finished with 17 digs and Kendall Six added seven digs.
In JV action, Beaver Local won 25-18, 25-14. Macie Bourne had five kills, Madison Poppelriter four kills, Sophia Gibson two kills and four digs, Leah Schrieber three kills and eight aces, and Gianna Congrove three kills and five aces. Oak Glen’s Zoey Caughey had five kills, Naomi Ayers three kills and Caetlyn Six three kills.
Oak Glen took the freshman match 25-13, 28-26. For Oak Glen, Karter Turley had six kills and Audrina May four kills, while Elynn Rogers dished out 10 assists and collected five digs. For Beaver Local, Jessica Layman had four kills, Bourne six kills, one ace and 11 digs, Katie Miller four kills, and Congrove 14 assists.
The Beavers visit Brooke on Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. JV start.
Oak Glen is at Wheeling Central today.
West Branch 3, Carrollton 1
CARROLLTON — West Branch captured a 28-26, 25-11, 14-25, 25-23 win over Carrollton on Tuesday.
West Branch is 11-6 and 7-2 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
Carrollton fell to 9-9 and 4-5.
Carrollton hosts Salem on Thursday.
Marlington 3, Salem 0
ALLIANCE — Marlington clinched the outright Eastern Buckeye Conference title with a 25-23, 25-11, 25-18 win over Salem on Tuesday.
Marlington was led by Danica Sarchione’s 21 kills.
Marlington is 13-2 and 9-0 in the Eastern Buckeye Conference.
Salem, losers of four straight in straight sets, is 4-11 and 2-7 in the EBC.
Salem is at West Branch on Thursday.
Jackson-Milton 3, Heartland 0
NORTH JACKSON — Heartland Christian fell in three sets to Jackson-Milton on Monday night, 25-17, 25-14, 25-20.
Keagan Pruitt led the Lions (10-7) with 13 kills, 12 digs and two aces. Claire Liposky added seven kills, 14 digs, a block and an ace, while Maddie Neville finished with seven kills, two blocks and an ace. Makenna Wilson contributed 18 assists and two aces.
