Maroscher scores WV Open win

Mitchell Maroscher (left), a 2012 Salem High School graduate, won the WVU Medicine West Virginia Open on Sunday at Oglebay Tennis Center in Wheeling. Maroscher defeated Illia Shceherbakov 6-2, 6-2 in the final. Maroscher, the boys and girls tennis coach at Salem, last won the event in 2013. Maroscher, the No. 1 seed, was also a runner-up in 2018, 2023 and 2024. Shceherbakov of Cleveland. Six-seeded Shceherbakov, a junior at Orange High School, finished third in the Div. II state tournament in May. There were 25 participants in the tournament which featured $5,000 in total prize money.
