Domestic violence should be a concern for us all

To the editor: October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. A time when advocates across the nation focus public attention on the epidemic of domestic violence. A time when every person should consider what she or he can do to become a part of the solution to help end domestic violence in our community. To the editor: I write today to respond to a Sept. 20 Morning Journal letter to the editor in which the writer claims to be “amazed” at those individuals who are afraid to vaccinate. The “amazed” writer shockingly suggests that hospitals should start barring patients who do not display their vaccination papers. There are a number of logical and ideological problems with this line of thinking. We need your help with healthcare facilities

To the editor: Northeast Ohio is experiencing a critical surge of patients in our healthcare facilities, with hospitals, emergency departments and urgent care centers all seeing high numbers of patients. Our hospitals stand ready to care for patients. However we are facing a shortage of available inpatient beds and significantly longer than usual wait times for emergency and urgent care. To the editor: This letter is in response to Judith Wootten’s letter of September 20. Judith is very upset that Tim Novak has chosen to NOT get the COVID vaccine. Tim is a family man, a local business owner a elected township official and a member of the Columbiana County Health Dept. Advisory Council. It seems like he is a responsible and respected member of the community. Many people including myself fully support Tim and everyone’s right to choose to either receive or not receive the COVID vaccine. Even with the vaccine you can still get COVID and still spread the virus. ...

To the editor: My letter is in response to a letter to the editor sent by Judith Wootten, published September 20. She wanted us all to know that she was “amazed” at comments made at a county health department meeting by an advisory board member, Tim Novak, who spoke out in concern of potential vaccine mandates.  I believe the word Wootten was looking for was: insulted. As Chief of the Lisbon Police Department, I want you to know that I am proud of my officers and my department. They care about this town and those who live in it. They take their oath “to serve and protect” seriously. For this reason, in 2019 I asked to meet with acting Mayor Gallo, village council and Fiscal Officer Tracey Wonner to discuss ways the village could generate more money.
