Thanks to the Greenford Ruritans

To the editor: A big thank you to the Greenford Ruritans for organizing the Memorial Day parade and service at the new picnic shelter in downtown Greenford. My wife and I agree this was one of the nicest parades and services Greenford has had in recent years. Kudos for a job well done, Greenford Ruritans. Don and Bev KuhnS, Canfield

Let’s look at all the facts

To the editor: Again today, Tuesday, May 24, 2022, we are facing another tragedy. Nineteen children and two adults shot to death. Why? An adult conversation about these continuing tragedies is way overdue! When a tragedy occurs, what does a civilized nation do? Using the well-known and always proven proven appropriate “scientific method” of examination, the experts look into the history of the event to try and determine the cause. A good example is an airline strategy. Piece by piece all events leading up to the cause are evaluated and when experts finally complete their ...

Reader thankful for efforts of editorial staff members

To the editor: I would like to commend the staff of the Salem News and Morning Journal for their outstanding coverage of area high school graduations. Recent issues of the newspapers have been filled with photographs of these special ceremonies. Not just a picture or two, but whole pages devoted to our area senior students. Graduations usually happen on weekends and many at the same time. The willingness of our local newspapers to cover them so completely and thoughtfully is one of the reasons that you “just gotta love local newspapers.” How the staff is able to cover these ...

Honor our flag and its meaning

To the editor: It’s a privilege to honor our flag, our men and women in uniform and those who have fallen for our country and our way of life. On Memorial Day we need to remember and honor our vets who were wounded or gave their lives while fighting under the Stars and Stripes to preserve our freedom. On My 30 we need to keep in our hearts and give thanks to all the men and women who made it possible for us to live and worship as free people. American disrespecting the flag, through acts of arrogant protesting for causes going against our principles and our flag, do not represent ...

East Liverpool needs a ‘house cleaning’

To the editor: To my East Liverpool friends and classmates: whenever we are going to have company, as our mothers taught us, we need to clean our house to get ready. Lou Holtz is probably the most famous of our visitors and on May 21, 2022, a bronze bust of him was unveiled at the East Liverpool High School, along with a barbeque dinner in the cafeteria. Five were inducted into the Hall of Fame: Hans Dietz, Robert Herrington, Dru Joyce, Mike Turk and Bob Duffy. It would be nice if we could house clean our little pottery town. Maybe some high school students could clean the Broadway ...
