Reacts to syndicated columnist

To the editor, In your Friday, July 21 issue, Clarence Page states in his editorial that, “McCarthy gives in to far-right faction.” After thoroughly reading his editorial, I could not find where McCarthy, the Speaker of the House, gave in to the far right. Perhaps he was referring to “Wokeism” and the fact that Senator Tuberville was holding up promotions in the military bowing toward wokeism and anti-extremism in their training. In other words, placing social mores in the military limelight, vying with true meaning training. Further, Page states, “Wokeism is a slogan in ...

Vote ‘No’ on August 8

To the editor: On August 8, there will be a special election to consider a constitutional amendment that would result in sweeping and undemocratic changes to the rights of citizens to propose and amend Ohio’s constitution through the ballot initiative process. A process that has been in place for 111 years. Issue 1 is the brainchild of a group of Republican politicians who have decided that the time has come to take power away from voters. They have decided this change is so urgent the state should spend $20 million for an almost unheard of August election rather than putting the ...

PLATINUM SPONSORS: Salem Tourism Board, Bob and Linda Sebo GOLD SPONSORS: AMVETS Post #45, Howells & Baird Inc., Lowry Tool & Die, Rotary Club of Salem, Salem ...

County Dem Chairman: ‘No” on Issue 1

To the editor: I am writing this letter to encourage all fellow Ohioans to vote No on Issue 1. Issue 1 is an attempt to limit the voice and power of the average voter. Regardless of your politics we all can agree that everyone’s vote counts equally. That would end if Issue 1 passes. Issue 1 raises the bar on the average citizen to require 60% for victory. Imagine watching Ohio State beat Michigan 59-41 and seeing the officials declare Michigan victorious! This is the logic Issue 1 supporters are pushing. Issue 1 also requires signature and support from all 88 counties. This would ...

‘A slap in the face to Lincoln’

To the editor: Issue 1 is a slap in the face to Lincoln, a Republican who gave his life for equality for all. Abe, the images of honesty, would cringe at today’s GOP. Most use their position for personal gain, money and power. They will not work with Democrats for the good of us all. God teaches us to care for each other. Politics are full of lies and liars. God relates over and over how much He hates liars. Liars become greedy, cheating con men, taking dark money to gain for themselves. Liars become the evil ones that deprive honest people of equality. Anyone who supports liars ...
