Salem Preservation honoring a very special month

To the editor: Salem Preservation members are in high gear as they prepare several major programs for the 51st National Preservation Month in May! May 1st will kick off a trilogy of events that have been in the works for some time now. A “Celebration of Preservation” at the 103-year-old Salem Golf Club along SR 45 south of Salem will be a double celebration! To the editor: The “Abomination of Desolation,” Freedom and Freedom of Speech, all find themselves applicable in this past Republican Primary. Freedom of Speech is at the core of our Republic! To the editor: April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. SAAM, as it is called, was established to call attention to the fact that sexual violence is widespread and impacts all of us. SAAM aims to raise public awareness about sexual abuse, harassment, and sexual assault. It also aims to educate communities about how to be involved in prevention. This year’s theme, “Building Connected Communities,” encourages each of us to work together to prevent sexual abuse, harassment and assault. Concerns over a preventable public health crisis

To the editor: As a former Wellsville Councilman and Wellsville Local Board of Education member, I am deeply concerned about the well-being of our children. I urge the federal government to prioritize the issue of flavored disposable vapes, which have become increasingly popular among youth. Currently, the FDA has authorized only 23 e-cigarette products for sale, all of which are tobacco-flavored and intended for adults. ODNR should protect public lands

To the editor: On February 26, Ohio proved once again that nothing in the state is sacred when it comes to making money from fracking. In addition to some Department of Transportation parcels, the 5-member Oil and Gas Land Management Commission (OGLMC) approved bids to frack Salt Fork State Park in Guernsey County, Valley Run in Carroll County, and Zepernick Wildlife area in Columbiana County. In some cases, the accepted bids were considerably “below market value” as noted by commissioner Warnock who voted against a bid of $500 per acre by EOG Resources, Inc. for a DOT parcel. ...

So where does the Columbiana County Parks Board go from here?

To the editor: This week’s overwhelming denial of the parks levy leaves the board at a crossroads. Despite the board’s hope that a countywide vote would secure its passage, the levy was resoundingly defeated. As a resident who voted against it, I offer some insights into why. To be completely transparent, I was briefly a member of this board. Columbiana County seems to overlook the tangible benefits of tourism. I’m not envisioning Carnival Cruise Lines docking in East Liverpool; I’m referring to the actual, measurable economic impact of events and attractions within our county. ...
