Sandra L. Coon

EAST PALESTINE — Sandra L. Coon, 86, a lifelong resident of East Palestine passed away February 22, 2023 at her home with family by her side.

Sandy was born February 25, 1936 in East Palestine, daughter of the late Bernard and Larna Grimm Doran.

She was a 1956 graduate of East Palestine High School. Sandy was an active member of Centenary United Methodist Church since 1956. She was a member of the choir and played the organ and piano for services. Sandy also worked at the church, serving as church secretary for over 50 years and was a member of the East Palestine Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for over 30 years. She enjoyed gardening and working in her flower beds. Sandy was a good cook, seamstress and enjoyed knitting. She made wedding and bridesmaid dresses for her family and Halloween costumes for the grandchildren. She was a faithful Christian and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Sandy is survived by her husband of 66 years, Emery Coon; a daughter, Lori (Warren) Wilkinson of Hartville; son, Tim Coon of Columbus; three grandchildren, Katie (Ryan) Stephen, Ian Wilkinson, Sam Wilkinson as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bernard “Cork” Doran, Jr., Hal Doran; a sister, Nola Adams as well as a granddaughter in infancy, Ashley Wilkinson.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine as well as one hour prior to services at the church. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Mark McTrustry officiating. Interment to follow at Glenview Cemetery in East Palestine.
