Sara E. Cope
EAST PALESTINE — Sara E. Cope, 99, passed away January 6, 2022, at her daughter’s residence in Wellsville.
Sara was born February 28, 1922, in Negley, Ohio, daughter of the late LeRoy D. and Mary Jane Straub Huff.
She was a graduate of East Palestine High School and worked for Kenmar in East Palestine, Cherry Hill Corp of Franklin Furniture in Columbiana and retired from Stearns and Foster after working many years as a seamstress. Sara was a past member of the United Presbyterian Church in East Palestine. She was a 50-year member of the East Palestine American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed gardening, sewing, her dog Pee Wee and most especially her family.
Sara is survived by two daughters, Mary (Charles) Mead of Salem, Cindy (Joseph) Lyle of Wellsville; seven grandchildren, Mark Downie, Matt (Linette) Downie, Erin (Brandon) Mango, Adam Mead, Kim Johnson, Kelsey (Mike) Canonge, Landon (Shannon) Lyle; 10 great-grandchildren and son she never had, Donnie Gallatin of Columbus, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Benjamin H. Evans, whom she married in 1940, her second husband Byron “Bud” Cope whom she married in 1972 and three sisters, Laura Belle Custer, Katherine Grim and Gladys Hostetter.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Linsley-Royal Funeral Home in East Palestine. A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with a burial to follow privately at Glenview.
Memorial contributions can be made in her name in lieu of flowers to Social Concerns 375 E. Grant Apt. 7, East Palestine, OH 44413.
