Sheriff’s Office
— A deputy responded at 4:25 a.m. March 13 to Taggart Street Extension, Unity Township for a commercial alarm, but arrived and found the business was operating and employees were working.
— Deputies were dispatched at 3:18 p.m. March 10 to Madison Township for a stolen vehicle, learning that St. Clair Township Police located the vehicle on East Liverpool Road north of Smith Ferry Road. The victim was requested to continue to that location to complete the stolen vehicle report and take custody of the vehicle. The suspect was detained by St. Clair officers, who was sitting in the driver’s seat when they arrived. During questioning by deputies about the stolen vehicle, the report said it became apparent that she lied during the questioning. The victim arrived and identified the suspect as the person who took her vehicle and did not have permission. Tina Piatt, 54, Newell, W.Va., was taken into custody and charged with theft of a motor vehicle, possession of a drug abuse instrument and obstructing official business. Two smoking pipes and various drug paraphernalia were obtained during the investigation.
Leetonia
— Downed lines were reported at 11:50 a.m. March 17 in the 400 block of Pearl Street.
— A drunk driver was reported at 8:40 p.m. March 17 by a Dairy Queen employee working the drive-thru who saw an open container of alcoholic beverage in the vehicle in the 300 block of Columbia Street. No additional information was available for the officer responding to the call.
— Police provided a welfare check at 7:34 p.m. March 15 on a resident of the 200 block in Oak Street.
— Avery Phillips, Matthew Huston and Drayvan Huston were given verbal trespass warnings for “jumping fences” at 3:47 p.m. March 16 at the Leetonia K-12 building in the 400 block of Walnut Street. The trio was not juveniles like earlier thought.
— Officers investigated a disturbance at 2:34 p.m. March 10 in the 200 block of Oak Street, where a resident alleged someone was running across his roof and jumping onto his garage. Police explained no one was there and that it was the wind, cautioning him to keep the noise down for the neighbors.
— Police responded at 9:16 p.m. March 14 for a reported gas leak in the 200 block of Main Street. No gas leak was detected, although the officer located a burning smell from a small fire pit in the area.
— An officer responded to a burning complaint shortly before 1 p.m. March 14 in the 100 block of Bears Den, where a neighbor put out the fire pit, which was blowing onto his neighbor’s property. The village, like all of Ohio, was on a burn ban.
— While sitting stationary on Industry Street at 9:43 p.m. March 14, a village police officer noticed a white Ford Mustang traveling west bound on state Route 344 in excess of 100 mph. After attempting to stop the vehicle with lights and sirens activated, the officer observed the driver traveling on Jersey Ridge Road. Salem also had notified Columbiana dispatch they had a similar vehicle in their jurisdiction but officials were unable to confirm it was the same subject.
— Downed lines were reported at 4:42 p.m. March 13 near Leetonia High School, where police provided traffic control as firefighters removed the lines.
— A female caller reported via phone at 3:52 p.m. March 15 that she had borrowed $15 from her identified “weed dealer,” never paying him back, and he was demanding she do so. An officer advised her to meet him at the police department with an officer present. The report didn’t reflect that transaction ever took place at the LPD.
Salem
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Perry Street at 1:57 a.m. Wednesday for a report of suspicious activity. The caller advised that the basement light was on in the house across the street from them, which is listed for sale. Officers located an open back door and checked the interior of the residence, finding nobody inside. Officers secured the door.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 12:58 a.m. Wednesday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with both parties, which were already separated, and it was advised that the dispute was verbal only, and both parties agreed to stay separate for the remainder of the evening.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Southeast Boulevard at 8:10 p.m. Tuesday for a reported civil dispute over a credit card. Officers advised the parties in question that it was a civil issue.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Jennings Avenue at 7:41 p.m. Tuesday for a report of criminal damage. The caller advised that a family member had broken a window after being told to leave the house. The caller did not want to pursue charges but did want the family member trespassed from the property. While attempting to speak with the family member, the caller contacted dispatch and advised that they did not want to have them trespassed anymore.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of Continental Drive at 6:11 p.m. Tuesday to assist EMT with a patient. Officers stood by briefly until it was found there was no issue.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 5:23 p.m. Tuesday for a reported verbal altercation between residents.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 1:03 p.m. Tuesday for a reported unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. The caller advised that their vehicle was taken from her residence on Friday by a person known to her. The caller advised her that she had no contact with the person since then and had no idea where the vehicle was. The vehicle was entered into LEADS as stolen.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of East Fourth Street at 10:15 a.m. Tuesday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with an eviction. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
— Officers responded to the 200 block of West 16th Street at 5:02 a.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised they heard a loud bang the night before and when they went to check on their neighbor, nobody answered. Officers spoke with the person in question, who advised that they were okay.
— Officers responded to Centennial Park at 10:41 p.m. Sunday observed a suspicious vehicle. Officers spoke with a person who was asleep inside the vehicle and advised them of the park hours and to leave.
— Officers responded to the 1600 block of Southeast Boulevard at 9:59 p.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that the person in question was causing problems. Officers spoke with the person and were able to calm them down for the night and advised the caller that the person had established residency and could not be removed from the residence.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 8:08 p.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person behind a church. Officers spoke with the people in question who were building a box for the church.
— Officers responded to the area of Hawley Avenue and East Fifth Street at 6:25 p.m. Sunday for a report of power lines in the roadway. Officers located the top of a telephone pole that had been snapped and was suspended over the roadway by power lines. The fire department and Ohio Edison were contracted and responded to the scene.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of West Wilson Street at 5:52 p.m. Sunday for an animal complaint. The caller advised that a dog was left inside a vehicle. Officers observed the vehicle had the windows down, and the weather was not severe.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 2:39 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check on a woman reportedly dancing and talking to themselves. Officers located the woman in question, who is a local and regularly behaves in that manner. Officers monitored them for a short time and nothing out of the ordinary was observed.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of West State Street at 1:24 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. The caller advised that their mother’s house is in deplorable condition and that their siblings living at the house weren’t being cared for. Officers spoke with the mother and were allowed into the residence to check the living conditions. Officers observed two dogs in cages and dog feces on the floor near the cages, but the rest of the house appeared fine, with working utilities and a stocked refrigerator. Officers advised her that due to the complaint the housing department would be notified of the incident.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East Pershing Street at 9:43 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers knocked on the door, but nobody answered.
— Officers responded to the 700 block of West State Street at 8:24 a.m. Sunday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a woman was refusing to leave the property and acting oddly. Officers spoke with the woman, advising her to stay off the property, and she was sent on her way.
— Officers assisted the Perry Township Police Department on station at 3:05 a.m. Sunday. Officers stood by while Perry Township officers conducted OVI testing.
— Officers responded to the 1200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at 2:40 a.m. Sunday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a person was stealing scrap from the business. Officers spoke with the person in question who advised he’d been given permission.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of East 11th Street at 1:10 a.m. Sunday for a report of suspicious people in a vehicle. The caller advised that there were people sitting in a car outside her house shining flashlights. Officers spoke with the occupants who advised that they were Door Dashing and could not find the address they were looking for.
— Officers assisted the Perry Township Police Department on station at 12:51 a.m. Sunday. Officers stood by while Perry Township officers conducted OVI testing.
— Officers responded to the 100 block of North Union Avenue at 12:02 a.m. Sunday for a noise complaint. Officers attempted contact despite not hearing any noise but were unable to speak with the resident in question.
— Officers responded to the 1000 block of East 10th Street at 9:20 p.m. Saturday for a reported dog at large. The caller advised that a dog had run into the road and had nearly been hit by a car. The dog was located at its residence, and the owner advised it had gotten out accidentally.
— Officers responded to the 900 block of East Fifth Street at 8:45 p.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers determined that the male half, Dominic Pagani, 52, Salem, had threatened the female half and he was taken into custody charged with domestic violence and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
— Officers responded to the area of Continental Drive at 7:25 p.m. Saturday for a reported domestic dispute. Officers spoke with the involved parties, and everything checked okay.
— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Lexington Avenue at 6:27 p.m. Saturday for a reported suspicious person. The caller advised that a man dressed in all black was walking around the apartments. Officers spoke with the person who advised they live there and were waiting for a ride.
— Officers responded to the 600 block of Continental Drive at 6:04 p.m. Saturday for a report of harassment. The caller advised that when they walked outside their neighbors were yelling at her. Officers attempted contact with the person in question, but nobody answered. Officers advised the caller to call back if the issue happened again.
— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 5:39 p.m. Saturday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that a woman was sleeping on the ground outside the business. When officers arrived, a bystander advised that the person in question had left prior to their arrival.
