Perry Township
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Harding Avenue at 8:06 p.m. Saturday for a report of a woman who advised her landlord had locked her out of her apartment. When officers arrived, they found the woman had access to her apartment and appeared to be having a mental break down. Officers checked the residence and appeared to be having a mental breakdown.
— Officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Georgetown Road and West Pershing Street at 3:50 p.m. Friday. A consent search of the vehicle was conducted with no contraband located and the driver, whose name was not listed, was cited for texting while driving.
— Officers responded to the area of Depot Road and Marion Avenue at 11:34 a.m. Friday for a wellness check. The caller advised that there was an elderly driver slumped over in their vehicle. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.
— Officers responded with the fire department to the 600 block of Main Street at 5:47 p.m. Sept. 3 for a report of a woman lying in the yard. When officers arrived, the woman was up and moving and she advised that she was okay and did not need anything.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Depot Road at 5:23 p.m. Sept. 2 for a wellness check. The caller advised that a man was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot not moving. Officers spoke with the man who advised that he was okay and didn’t need anything.
— Officers responded to the 1700 block of Hearthside Drive at 9:48 a.m. Sept. 2 for a report of a juvenile refusing to go to school. The caller advised that their daughter jumped out of the vehicle at a stop sign while taking them to school and that while she was able to get them back in the car they were now arguing about not wanting to go, claiming that she is sick and holding onto furniture refusing to get off the floor to walk out to the car. Officers attempted to speak with the daughter but were unable to.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of West Fifth Street at 9:18 p.m. Sept. 1 to assist the Salem Police Department with a man allegedly making threats and walking around with an unassembled rifle. The man was found and detained, and the rifle was found to be a BB gun. Officers stood by until the investigation was complete.
— Officers responded to the area of state Route 45 at 7:49 p.m. Sept. 1 for a reported reckless operator. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate them.
Salem
— Officers made contact with a complainant on station at 11:13 p.m. Friday in reference to someone following them. As officers were speaking with the complainant, the other person also pulled up. Officers determined the juveniles in the vehicle had knocked on the person’s door in Perry Township and then ran, but the person followed them to the police station. The juveniles were told to cease their actions and go home for the evening.
— Officers responded to the 800 block of East State Street at 3:17 p.m. in reference to juveniles fighting, but were unable to find a disturbance.
— A Franklin Avenue resident reported at 3 p.m. Friday that someone had hacked his Facebook account and was trying to sell items under it.
— A complainant reported an ex-employee stealing from the company. Officers determined it happened outside the city and the complainant was advised of the proper agency to contact.
— An officer responded to Southeast Elementary at 10:27 a.m. Friday in reference to two students possibly having issues at home. The matter was turned over to Perry Township police due to the students living in that jurisdiction.
— An Alliance resident reported at 9:53 a.m. Friday that he had given someone at ride to the city earlier in the week and the person paid him for the ride with counterfeit money. The matter is under investigation.
— Officers responded to the 1400 Shady Lane where a resident reported a random driver pulled into his driveway, got out and started yelling at him, then took off honking the horn.
— Officers responded to the 1800 block of Maple Street at 8:16 p.m. Thursday in reference to a dispute and found it to be verbal only. Both people were advised to separate for the night.
— Officers responded to the 1500 block of North Lincoln Avenue at 6:31 p.m. Thursday where a resident reported a former landlord had shown up demanding house keys. The resident said they don’t have keys to the residence and told the former landlord to leave. The resident was advised to contact police if the person returned.
— Officers responded to the 300 block of East Third Street at 3:13 p.m. Thursday where a resident reported her ex-boyfriend was at the home and refusing to leave. The ex-boyfriend left before officers arrived, but officers were able to find him and advise him no to return to the home.
— An officer responded to the 900 block of West State Street at 3:13 p.m. Thursday where the owner of the business reported someone stole a cart from the business. The matter is under investigation.
— An officer responded to Buckeye Elementary at 2:31 p.m. Thursday in reference to a student who had made an inappropriate statement in the classroom. The officer and administrators spoke with the student about the issue.
— An officer responded to West School Street between East Fifth and East Sixth streets at 12:23 p.m. Thursday in reference to individuals with a tent erected at the rear of the residence who were burning something. The officer found two individuals with a smoking burn barrel and informed them of open burning prohibitions and tent restrictions within city limits. They said they are not living in the tent and extinguished the fire with water while the officer was present.
— Ryan Scott Rygiel, 52, Salem, was cited for no driver’s license following a two-vehicle crash on private property in the 100 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 11:48 a.m. Thursday in which he back out of a parking spot and struck another vehicle. No injuries were reported.
— Travis Bragg, 27, Salem, was arrested on an active warrant out of Columbiana County for failure to appear after officers responded to the 100 block of West Pershing Street at 11:40 a.m. Thursday to check the well-being of a juvenile due to living conditions at the home. Officers found the juvenile and residence to be fine.
— An officer responded to the 400 block of Reilly Avenue at 9:21 a.m. Thursday in reference to a student exhibiting behavioral issues and refusing to enter the school. The officer along with the parents and school staff were able to get the student to enter the building without incident.
— A Newgarden Avenue resident reported at 8:56 a.m. Thursday that her ex-husband was contacting her via voicemail and email. An officer contacted the ex-husband and advised him to stop contact or face criminal charges.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fourth Street at 3:05 a.m. Tuesday for a reported medical call. Officers assisted the fire department until no longer needed.
–Officers on patrol in the area of East State Street and Vine Avenue at 11:10 p.m. Monday located a man yelling. Officers spoke with the man, who was intoxicated, and had him contact a ride to come pick him up. Officers gave the man a warning for disorderly conduct.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 8 p.m. Monday for a reported juvenile problem. The caller was having issues with their juvenile son and after speaking with both the juvenile advised he would start listening.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of East Sixth Street at 4:50 p.m. Monday for a reported dispute. Officers spoke with both parties involved and collected statements from them. Nothing physical took place and the incident will be sent to the prosecutor’s office to review for possible charges.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 3:36 p.m. Monday regarding a report of misuse of a credit card. They advised that they hired a contractor to do exterior work on their house and gave them the card to purchase materials for the job and that the list of items to be purchased was discussed in advance with a contract signed. The person advised that the contractor failed to complete the work in the agreed upon time frame and that they failed to provide receipts for purchases made up to that point and when they checked digital receipts purchases were made for materials that were not discussed nor agreed upon.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 2:20 p.m. Monday regarding a notice of unpaid tickets in New York she received in the mail. The caller advised that she has never been to New York and investigation found that the notice was legitimate and attached to a vehicle she had sold to a dealership prior to the violations. Officers advised the caller to contact the dealership to see if they can tell her where the old vehicle went after being sold to them and to contact the non-emergency number on the mail for the New York Police Department to advised them about the situation.
–Officers responded to the area of Hawley Avenue and East Fourth Street at 11:19 a.m. Monday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that a dog was inside a vehicle for a long period of time. Officers observed the dog to be inside the vehicle in deplorable conditions with no means for water or food and surrounded by its own feces, and to have been in the vehicle since the early morning. An owner of the dog responded and advised that it had been placed in the vehicle due to not being allowed in the house alone and the dog was placed inside the house. Both owners of the dog, whose names were not listed, will be facing criminal charges as a result of the incident.
–Officers responded to the 700 block of Adams Avenue at 11:07 a.m. Monday for a reported barking dog complaint. The caller advised that the neighbor’s dog barks all day while they are gone. Officers spoke with the neighbor, and they advised that they would try to find a way for the dog to bark less while they are gone.
–The school resource officer was advised of an alleged issue which occurred between a student’s mother and stepfather outside of the city at 10:44 a.m. Monday. The incident was found to have occurred in the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office jurisdiction, and all information was gathered and forwarded to the Sheriff’s Office.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:11 a.m. Monday for a reported animal complaint. The caller advised that a wild turkey was prowling the front door of a preschool and was worried for the safety of the children. Officers safely got the turkey back to a wooded area.
–Officers responded to the 1900 block of Whinnery Road at 9:29 p.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with all parties involved and found that the reported injury to a child had occurred but that they were taken to the hospital immediately for treatment and there was neither abuse nor endangering of a child.
–Officers responded to the 1800 block of Maple Street at 9:07 p.m. Sunday for a report of a person allegedly neglecting their child and walking them in a stroller with their dog. Officers spoke with the person in and found that everything appeared to be okay. They advised that their mother was getting intoxicated and creating a scene at the residence, so he removed his child and himself from the situation to avoid conflict.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of West State Street at 6:19 p.m. Sunday for a reported group of juveniles who had run away from a group home in another jurisdiction. The juveniles were turned over to the Goshen Township Police Department.
