Sheriff’s Office

— Deputies at 10:36 p.m. Tuesday investigated a report of a 5-year-old child showing up alone at the Duke and Duchess gas mart on U.S. Route 62 in Knox Township without any adult supervision. The child reportedly arrived with no shoes on and no shirt and was unable to clearly identify his parents or provide any contact information. After a thorough investigation, it was determined the child lived substantially west of the location and left home without his parents knowing, walking down a very busy U.S. Route 62 by himself. The child’s home was eventually found and he was returned safely to his parent, who said she didn’t know he had left the house. A report was sent to child protective services for follow up.

— Sebring 911 dispatch in Mahoning County reported at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday that there was a call about a utility trailer abandoned in the middle of the road in the 600 block of South 12th Street in Knox Township in Columbiana County. Deputies arrived and spoke to two people who were removing the trailer due to it being a road hazard. Deputies could not locate any license plates or a vin number. Of the two tires on the trailer, one was missing and one was flat. Baker’s Towing retrieved the trailer and took it to their impound yard.

— Deputies responded to the Negley Fire Department, Middleton Township, for a dog bite call reported at 4:21 Aug. 27. Negley EMS provided medical care to the person bitten and his mother was taking him to the hospital. Deputies advised the dog warden of the situation.

Highway Patrol

— William Potts, of Idaho Avenue in East Liverpool, was cited at 1:49 p.m. Aug. 26 in Fairfield Township for failure to control, after his southbound vehicle traveled off state Route 11 and hit a guardrail on the right side of the road.

— A mystery driver was at fault for a two-vehicle crash Aug. 24 in Salem Township, according to investigators. Brenda Bacon, of Lisbon Dungannon Road in Lisbon, was southbound on state Route 164 a black Suburban or Tahoe failed to yield at the stop sign at Lodge Road and pulled out, striking her before fleeing the scene. The vehicle left behind its front bumper, grille and headlight.

— Brandon Smith, of Lisbon Street in East Liverpool, was arrested at 2:32 a.m. Nov. 24 in Elkrun Township on charges of OVI and failure to control. Smith was northbound on state Route 11 and failed to stop at a stop sign at state Route 11 and 154 and struck a guardrail on the south side of the road before traveling off north side into a field. An additional charge of receiving stolen property was added after it was learned the vehicle had been reported stolen earlier by East Liverpool police. Additional charges may be pending based on the lab results stemming from a white powdery substance found in the driver’s backpack while inventorying the vehicle. Witnesses reported the northbound vehicle had been passing vehicles at a high rate of speed (estimated up to 114 mph) while traveling state Route 11 before crashing.

St. Clair Township

— Officers were dispatched for a tree down in the roadway at 6:07 a.m. Sept. 1 in the 12000 block of state Route 170 and removed enough to clear the way without ODOT assistance.

— A caller reported at 11:02 p.m. Aug. 31 that someone had accidentally dropped a few bales of hay on state Route 11. After locating the bales, officers cleared the roadway.

— An officer was dispatched shortly after midnight Aug. 30 to Pizza Hut to investigate two older males sitting in the parking lot bushes. After checking the area and not finding them, the officer cleared without further incident.

— Brandy Wiggins, address unknown, was arrested at 2:11 a.m. Aug. 30 in a Cannon Mills residence on an active warrant out of the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office. Police had responded to the residence to investigate an open line with a possible domestic situation in the background. Wiggins was at the residence and denied anything was wrong or calling 911.

— Police responded at 1:03 a.m. Aug. 30 to United Rentals for an alarm drop. After checking the premises and finding it secure, they cleared the scene.

— An officer investigated a disturbance at 11:09 p.m. Aug. 28 in the 48000 block of Homestead Boulevard, where a male was removing wooden pallets from behind MESO. He stated an employee gave him permission, but he left anyways.

— A driver was given a verbal warning at 3:50 a.m. Aug. 27 about going 51 in a 40 mph zone on state Route 170.

— A police officer responded at 5:25 a.m. Aug. 27 to a disabled vehicle on the side of McGuffey Drive. Upon contact with the driver, he learned that the vehicle was acting up and he did not feel comfortable going the speed limit but had wanted to make it home. The officer escorted the man to his East Liverpool residence safely .

— A female driver was given a verbal warning shortly after midnight Aug. 24 when she was observed driving a vehicle with no license plate light on St. Clair Avenue.

East Liverpool

— No citation was issued to a driver who proceeded to turn right on red at 7:50 p.m. Aug. 26 at the intersection of Pennsylvania Avenue and Parkway despite the posted “No Turn On Red” sign. The officer noted she may have been too far forward to see the posted sign.

— Officers responded at 9:20 p.m. Aug. 26 to Harvey Avenue for a report of juveniles playing in the roadway. Officers cleared with negative contact.

— Melissa Geer, address unknown, was cited at 5:04 pm. Aug. 26 for dogs at large, after a caller reported his dog was attacked by three dogs in the 1000 block of Waterloo Street. She denied her dogs were aggressive, saying they were just protective of each other nor were they updated on their shots. The dog warden responded to talk to Geer as well.

— Police responded at 8:12 p.m. Aug. 26 to the 600 block of St. Clair Avenue, where a caller stated he thought someone was trying to break into his apartment. Upon arrival, officers didn’t observe anyone in the hall area but made contact with a male subject who just arrived at the apartment and knocked on the door. Officers cleared without further incident.

— Police responded at 11:17 p.m. Aug. 26 in the 300 block of Wilbert Avenue for a disturbance in a parking lot, where a female subject was assisting her friend in moving due to her eviction. A male subject, who apparently is in a custody dispute with the evicted female, allegedly threatened to kill her and “run a truck up her (expletive)” and tried to urge two random guys to “get her and her vehicle.” He denied making any direct threats to anyone. Police forwarded the incident would be sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

— Police were dispatched shortly after midnight Aug. 27 to the 800 block of Fairview Street, where a caller reported that he had been assaulted. Upon arrival, the party was located and found to be very intoxicated. The man was unable to relay information about who had assaulted him or see visible signs on his person. His girlfriend denied any assault had occurred, but the man had just wanted to leave the residence to go to his mother’s. Police advised the male to go to bed for the rest of the evening and cleared without further issues.

— Trent McGurl, address unknown, was cited at 8:01 p.m. Aug. 27 on Perry Street with driving without a valid license. Upon contact after a routine traffic stop, McGurl admitted making a rolling stop and a LEADS check revealed he only had a ID.

— Police investigated a report near Hot Dog Shoppe that a middle aged man was walking around, wearing all black and carrying a machete. Officers searched the area and were unable to located the male and cleared the scene.

— A Pennsylvania man was given a verbal warning at 9:23 pm. Aug. 28 near state Route 39, when he did not have a valid registration sticker on his vehicle. He provided the officer with proof that he had renewed the registration, but Pennsylvania no longer provides the stickers.

— An officer investigated a disturbance at 7:11 p.m. Aug. 25 in the 600 block of St. Clair Avenue, where a male threw a bike down the stairs and was banging on doors. The officer found no one on scene when he responded and cleared.

— An unidentified female was given a verbal warning for window tint at 2:22 a.m. Aug. 25 in the first block of Blakely Street.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 800 block of East Third Street at 2:04 a.m. Thursday for a report of a suicidal man. The fire department and EMT responded and after speaking with the man he was transported by EMT.

— Officers responded to the 2500 block of Bentley Drive at 8:04 p.m. Thursday regarding an offense that occurred in Poland Township. Officers collected information.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Continental Drive at 7:30 p.m. Thursday for a report of fraud. The caller advised there were several fraudulent charges on their debit card. Officers gathered information and advised they would look into the matter.

— Officers responded to the 300 block of Newgarden Avenue at 7:13 p.m. Thursday for a report landlord dispute. The caller advised that her landlord paid someone to remove her belongings from the apartment and provided court documents showing that they had until the 15th to remove their items. The items were moved into a dumpster outside. Officers will attempt to contact the landlord.
