East Liverpool
— The school resource officer was requested by the truancy officer to do a welfare check on a couple of students. The officers checked on the students and were told they were fine and would be in school the next day.
— Officers checked on an alarm at the VFW where they were met by a member who turned the alarm off on May 29.
— An officer who observed a male walking behind the Rite Aid building on Walnut Street on May 29 advised the male that there shouldn’t be anyone back there.
— Officers searched the area of St. George Street where Casa de Emanuel is located for a suspicious person was reported to be walking up to homes with bolt cutters on May 29.
— Officers assisted the Columbiana County Drug Task Force with the execution of a search warrant at a Holiday Street residence on May 29. The officers took Catherine Shaffer, 23, address not provided, into custody on an active warrant.
— An officer checked the East Liverpool City Hospital parking lot on May 29 for a vehicle reported to have a dog in it without the car running or windows down.
— Officers found no signs of entry when responding to a house alarm for an Elysian Way residence on May 29. They spoke to the homeowner by phone who said they would be home in 40 minutes.
— Officers responding to a call of a four-year-old boy falling from the second story window of a Stevens Alley residence on May 29. The officers arrived at the residence and walked out back to find an 8-year-old boy standing with the 4-year-old boy who was naked and covered in dirt. The older boy told officers he was walking downstairs through the living room when he saw his little brother falling from the window to the ground. Officers tried to talk to the younger boy to find out if he was injured and was told by the grandmother that the child is non-verbal. The child was transported to East Liverpool City Hospital and then to Akron for trauma. Officers noted he would notify CPS.
— Abigail Kiger, 21, address not provided, was charged with domestic violence and transported to the Columbiana County Jail on May 29 after officers responded to a Shadylane residence for a domestic violence call.
Perry Township
–Officers responded to the 7400 block of Pinelake Road at 9:55 p.m. Sunday to deliver a message for the Goshen Township Police Department. The person in question no longer lives at that residence, and the resident advised they would relay the message.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of Old Coach Lane at 9:38 p.m. Sunday for a report of two suspicious vehicles. Due to assisting another agency on an emergency call officers were delayed, and both vehicles were gone prior to officers’ arrival.
–Officers responded to the area of Salem Grange Road at 7:57 p.m. Sunday to assist the Columbiana County Sherriff’s Office with a possible breaking and entering in progress. The vehicle had left prior to officers’ arrival, but it was later observed driving past and deputies caught up with the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on it. Officers stood by while deputies had four people detained.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of Prospect Street at 10:49 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers were unable to contact anyone at the residence.
–Officers responded to the 1700 block of Harding Avenue at 10:37 a.m. Sunday for a wellness check. Officers spoke with the man at the residence who advised he was okay. The man advised that his phone was dead and that he would charge it and contact the caller.
–Officers responded to the 6100 block of Woodsdale Road at 10:12 a.m. Sunday to assist the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office with a domestic in progress. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of West Fourteenth Street at 8:41 a.m. Saturday for a parking complaint. The caller advised that sometimes the neighbor parks on their lawn and they don’t want them parking on their property. They also advised that the same neighbor and people visiting them do burnouts in their driveway as well as the road and drive recklessly. The neighbor was not home at the time of the call, and officers were advised that a report would be on file.
–Officers spoke to a person by phone at 8:07 p.m. Friday who advised that their neighbor was talking badly about her son and that they will try to get her son in trouble by making things up. Officers advised her that the matter was civil, not criminal.
–Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 7:46 p.m. Friday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with the involved parties separately and were advised that they had gotten into a minor altercation but were okay now. They were advised of the domestic violence law.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of Beechwood Road at 9:28 a.m. Friday for a report of two dogs in the backyard attempting to attack chickens. The caller was in the yard fending off the dogs from the chickens and officers found that both dogs came from a residence in the 1100 block where nobody was home. Officers found that a neighbor was looking after the dogs, and the dogs were returned to the residence and put inside the house.
–Officers responded to the 1800 block of Goshen Road at 9:13 a.m. Friday for a report of a dog breaking into a chicken coop and killing 12 chickens. Officers spoke with the caller who advised that he and his wife observed a dog inside their chicken coop which had killed all of their chickens. The dog had entered through a screened window and was last seen running northbound on Goshen Road. The dog was later found to be from the 1100 block of Beechwood Road.
Salem
–Officers responded to the 600 block of West Seventh Street at 11:03 a.m. Wednesday to assist the Columbiana County Drug Enforcement Task Force with an ongoing investigation. Officers assisted until no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 12:14 a.m. Wednesday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller was upset his live-in girlfriend would not give him space and leave their bedroom. After he was told that the room belonged to both of them, he chose to go for a walk and possibly stay at his brother’s home for the night.
–Officers responded to the 1400 block of East State Street at 11:42 p.m. Tuesday for a reported theft. Officers collected information about the matter and advised them that they would contact the person in question and left statement forms to be filled out.
–Officers responded to the 1900 block of Whinnery Road at 10:02 p.m. Tuesday for a juvenile issue. Officers collected information about the matter and advised a report would be on file.
–Officers responded to the 700 block of Granite Avenue at 9:38 p.m. Tuesday for a reported barking dog complaint. When officers arrived all of the dogs were inside the home, but the windows were open for air circulation. Officers spoke with the owner who advised that she would handle the dogs.
–Officers responded to the 100 block of Railroad Street at 3:12 p.m. Tuesday for a reported water line break. The water department was contacted and responded to the scene, and officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the area of East Pershing Street and Ohio Avenue at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday for a wellness check. The caller advised that there was a child playing in the front seat of the vehicle. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the source of the complaint.
–David Stewart, 63, Lisbon, was cited for failure to yield after his northbound vehicle on Vine Avenue struck a vehicle driven westbound on East Third Street by Joyce Brown, 78, Salem, at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.
–Officers responded to the 1300 block of Franklin Avenue at 11:06 a.m. Tuesday for a reported civil matter. The caller advised that in March he had let a neighbor use a trailer tire which was not returned. Officers attempted to contact the neighbor unsuccessfully and explained to the caller why the issue was a civil matter, not criminal.
–Officers spoke to a person at the police department at 9:24 a.m. Tuesday regarding information on housing resources within the city. Peer Supper responded and assisted the person.
–Officers responded to Wal-Mart at 4:53 a.m. Tuesday for a reported 911-hang-up-call. Officers found the matter to be accidental.
–Officers responded to a business in the 900 block of West State Street at 4:51 a.m. Tuesday for a reported suspicious person. Officers spoke with the person in question, advising him of the complaint, and he advised that he was just lying on the bench and had done nothing wrong. An employee of the business asked that he leave, which he did without incident.
–Officers responded to a business in the 500 block of East Pershing Street at 12:33 a.m. Tuesday for a reported person to be removed. The caller advised that the person had been loitering around the property and sleeping under an outside staircase for days. Officers spoke with the person, who was advised of the complaint and told not to leave the property and not return. The person was also issued a trespass notice at the manager’s request.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of East Fourteenth Street at 8:18 p.m. Monday for a reported attempted burglary. Officers collected information about the matter as well as times that the homeowner observed open doors as well as the garage door. The homeowner advised that he had not observed anything missing, just someone attempting to gain entry into the home. Officers advised the homeowner that an extra watch would be placed on the residence and to call immediately if there was any suspicious activity.
–Officers spoke to a person by phone at 4:59 p.m. Monday regarding a neighbor dispute. The caller advised that people living a few houses down from her have been saying ignorant things to her and her animals. Officers advised them that nothing illegal had been done at this time and that she should stay away from them. She advised that she understood.
–Officers responded to the 300 block of Penn Avenue at 4:45 p.m. Monday for a wellness check. The caller advised that her friend’s apartment is infested with bed bugs. Officers spoke with the person who advised that she was fine and in the process of trying to contact the owner of the apartment to fix the issue and denied needing any medical attention. A note was also left for the housing department.
Columbiana
— Terrance Brown, of Youngstown, was served at 8:15 p.m. June 7 with an active warrant out of Lucas County.
— Taylor Saunders, no address listed, was cited at 2:26 p.m. June 5 near South Elm and Pittsburgh streets after a traffic stop.
— Sean Macgillivray, of Akron, was cited at 7:39 p.m. June 4 in the area of Salem and Middle streets with expired registration after a routine traffic stop.
— Jeremy McNish was cited at 5:46 p.m. June 4 for driving under suspension at a traffic stop in the 44000 block of state Route 14.
— Following a private property crash at 10:38 a.m. June 1 in the 44000 block of state Route 14, Gerald Yerkey, of New Waterford, was cited for driving under suspension.
Leetonia
— An officer responded at 9:19 p.m. June 11 to check on a female subject who was contemplating driving home intoxicated with her juvenile son. She had argued with her boyfriend, who threw her keys toward the railroad tracks. She couldn’t located them and got a ride home.
— Police performed a welfare check at 1:13 p.m. June 11 for a female Coal Alley resident who had expressed suicidal tendencies on social media. The woman went to the emergency room for evaluation.
— Officers investigated a dispute at 3:11 p.m. June 11 to the splash pad to investigate a dispute between two juveniles. Both sets of parents were advised that the children are not to be there unattended due to their age, which is clearly posted on the splash pad signage.
— A juvenile was sent to stay overnight with his grandparents, after police responded at 6:39 pm. June 6 to a domestic dispute with his parents, whom he alleged beat him. Visible injuries to both the mother and juvenile were photographed as potential evidence.
— Andrew Grubbs, no address listed, was involved in a rollover crash at 8:10 a.m. June 6 in the area of state Route 344 and Washington Street Extension. Grubbs had been driving a pickup truck east and turned onto Washington Street Extension and his load shifts spilling a load of ammonia sulfate fertilizer off a grain trailer onto the roadway. Local fire authorities had to contact the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency for directions on the cleanup.
