Perry Township

— Officers on patrol in the 1300 block of West State Street at 2:06 a.m. Monday located a vehicle parked outside a closed business. Officers spoke with the occupants of the vehicle who advised they were working through something.

— Officers responded to the area of state Route 45 for a reported reckless operator potentially traveling north from Lisbon at 12:13 a.m. Monday. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate.

— Officers spoke with a person by phone at 10:01 a.m. Saturday regarding an ongoing civil issue with an ex-boyfriend. She was advised of her options in the matter.

— John Herbert, 81, Salem, was cited for failure to yield after his vehicle struck another vehicle driven west on Snyder Road by Daniel Powell, 37, Lisbon, while leaving a business at 7:47 a.m. Saturday. Both drivers were found to have sustained injuries and transported to the hospital.

— Officers responded to the 1200 block of West State Street at 8:42 p.m. Friday for a report of a drone flying over a residence. The caller advised that at approximately 7 p.m. a large drone similar to the ones seen on the news recently was flying over his residence and then moved to hover over the city of Salem. The caller further advised that he just wanted officers to be aware of the incident and that he would shoot it out of the air if it came back. Officers advised him not to do that and to call officers for any further incidents.

— Officers responded to the 1700 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:58 p.m. Friday for a report of a woman walking and stumbling in the roadway. Prior to officers being dispatched, Salem officers checked South Lincoln down to Fresh Mark and Chestnut Grove without locating them. Officers checked several nearby areas but were unable to locate the woman in question.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Old Coach Lane at 5:55 p.m. Friday for a report of threats. The caller advised their 13-year-old daughter had received threatening text messages from a juvenile man from Youngstown, and officers observed a text sent by the juvenile stating that on Dec. 17 at 5 p.m. they’d “find out” about him. The caller advised they did not want any criminal charges to be filed and only wanted the male to stop contacting their daughter. Contact was made with the juvenile in question via public service who confirmed sending the threatening texts and claimed to only be joking. Officers advised him of the seriousness of the threats he made, the consequences they carry, to cease contact with the female juvenile or criminal charges will be filed and that this would be his one and only warning. Officers requested to speak with the male’s parents, but they were advised they were not home.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Michigan Boulevard at 4:05 p.m. Thursday for a reported domestic. The caller advised that her 14-year-old-son became irate when asked to pick up around the house and attacked his mother, brother and sister. The caller advised her right shoulder was hurting and that the sister’s hand was swollen. The caller filled out a voluntary statement and the juvenile was taken into custody for domestic violence and transported to the Tobin Center.

— Officers on patrol in the area of Snyder Road at 12:33 a.m. Dec. 12 observed a man on a bicycle without the required equipment. Officers advised the man the bicycle was required to have a reflector and headlight to be operated at night and that this was his final warning.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of West State Street at 8:42 a.m. Dec. 11 for a report of a stolen vehicle. The caller did not have any information for the report and advised he was waiting to call the company where the vehicle was purchased. The caller contacted the company and found that the vehicle had been re-possessed.

Salem

— Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 1:32 p.m. Saturday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that he was being threatened by someone who lives in Houston, Texas, and wanted a report on file.

— Officers on patrol in the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 12:59 p.m. Saturday observed a person believed to have an active warrant out of Columbiana County. Officers spoke with the person Thomas Klink Jr., 33, Salem, confirming the warrant and took them into custody before transporting them to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Maple Street at 11:06 a.m. Saturday for a speak with officer report. The caller advised that when she woke up in the morning, she thought someone was in her residence. Officers checked the residence and did not locate anyone.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of West Seventh Street at 10:39 a.m. Saturday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised his neighbor is posting his address and him on social media claiming that he stole her cat. The caller also stated that she has been through his yard searching for the cat. He was advised that the social media posts are a civil matter and that he would have to take her to court for it. Officers had him fill out a criminal trespass notice for the neighbor so she would not be allowed back in his yard. Officers then served them with the trespass notice and advised her not to go back in her neighbor’s yard.

— Officers responded to the 500 block of East Fourth Street at 6:55 a.m. Saturday for a wellness check. The caller advised he was unable to contact the person in question and was concerned. Contact was made and the person advised she would contact the caller.

— Officers responded to the 600 block of Franklin Avenue at 4:07 a.m. Saturday for a report of a person attempting to enter an abandoned home. Officers found the person, who allegedly attempted to gain access to the home but was unable to do so. First responders were then called due to the person being out in the extreme cold for a long time and not being in the right frame of mind. The home was secured, and the person was transported to the hospital for further evaluation.

— Officers responded to the 200 block of Rose Avenue at 1:59 a.m. Saturday for a follow-up investigation. Officers checked the area and located the missing juvenile who returned home.

— Officers on patrol in the 200 block of Hawley Avenue at 1:50 a.m. Saturday for a reported parking complaint. Officers located a silver jeep that was parked blocking a driveway and angled partially blocked the opposite lane of traffic. Officers were unable to contact the owner of the vehicle, and a pink parking ticket was issued. The vehicle was removed from the scene by Sinsley Towing.

— Officers responded to the 400 block of Vine Avenue at 11:16 p.m. Friday for a reported runaway juvenile. Officers spoke with the juvenile’s father and were able to locate the juvenile at an address in the city and they were returned home.

— Officers on patrol in the 100 block of North Ellsworth Avenue at 10:53 p.m. Friday attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle for multiple violations. The driver attempted to elude officers, but the driver was ultimately detained. During the investigation K-9 Chaz was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotic odor. Contraband was recovered that the driver threw from the vehicle and in the vehicle. The driver, Stephen McDermott, 29, Berlin Center, was placed under arrest and transported to the police department for processing prior to transport to the Columbiana County Jail charged with driving under suspension and drug paraphernalia.

— Officers located a vehicle in Centennial Park after hours at 10:45 p.m. Friday. Officers spoke to the family and advised them of the park hours.

— Officers on patrol in the 600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 8:08 p.m. Friday found a man yelling at his mother who stopped as soon as he saw officers. Officers checked on the mother and she advised everything was okay.

— Officers responded to the 1600 block of South Lincoln Avenue at 7:47 p.m. Friday for a wellness check. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate the person in question.

— Officers responded to the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East 12th Street at 9:52 p.m. Monday for a report of debris in the roadway. The debris was small enough for officers to remove.

— Officers spoke with a person at the police department at 8:48 p.m. Monday who advised that their daughter was posting about them on social media. Officers advised her that it is a civil matter, and it is not illegal.

— Officers responded to the 1300 block of Fairview Avenue at 8:01 p.m. Monday for a wellness check on a juvenile who lives in a home with his caretaker. His mother requested the check because she hadn’t spoken to him in a week. Contact was made with the juvenile who was found to be okay and the caretaker advised that the phone was broken. His mother was advised and asked to respond to the residence at the juvenile’s request.

— Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of East Third Street several times Monday for alarm activations. Officers checked the business multiple times confirming it was secure and conducted a walkthrough of the building’s interior with everything appearing fine. A faulty sensor was determined to be the cause of the multiple alarms.
