— Officers responded to the 900 block of West Wilson Street at 2:16 p.m. Saturday to check for a person with an active warrant out of Columbiana County. Officers spoke with the person, Christopher Byers Jr., Salem, taking him into custody and transporting him to the Columbiana County Jail.
–Officers responded to the Holiday Inn Express at 1:43 a.m. Tuesday for a wellness check on a woman sleeping in a vehicle. Officers spoke with both occupants of the vehicle who advised they were okay and had just fallen asleep before getting a room. During the investigation a small amount of marijuana was seized and destroyed, and both were issued a warning. They booked a room at the hotel for the remainder of the evening.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Walnut Street at 11:39 p.m. Monday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers spoke with two people who advised that nothing physical had occurred, just verbal.
–An off-duty officer reported a dog running at large in the 1500 block of Carole Circle at 5:03 p.m. Monday. The officer had already caught the animal and the humane agent was contacted.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of North Howard Avenue at 4:51 p.m. Monday for a report of illegal dumping. The caller advised that when he came home from work, he found three tires that were on his property. He advised that he did not know who dumped them and just wanted to make a report.
–Officers responded to the 900 block of Liberty Street at 4:42 p.m. Monday regarding an emergency custody order involving juveniles within the city. Officers attempted contact at the residence but were unsuccessful in making contact. The caller advised he would return to the police department on Tuesday for further assistance.
–The School Resource Officer was advised of an issue with something a student had written in a notebook at 3:13 p.m. The officer, school administration, and a family member spoke with the student at length about the issue, who was suspended and will need to speak with the school counselor about the issue and possibly outside counseling if needed.
–Officers on patrol in the area of Columbia Street near South Lundy Avenue at 3:03 p.m. Monday. During the stop K-9 Simon was deployed and indicated the presence of narcotic odor, and the driver, whose name was not listed, was issued a written warning for the traffic violation.
–Officers received information that a juvenile was possibly involved in a juvenile pornography incident at 2:56 p.m. Monday. Officers investigated the incident and learned that the person in question was an adult not a juvenile.
–Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 2:05 p.m. Monday regarding a civil issue. The man advised that his sister took his firearm from his residence, and officers spoke with the sister-in-law who advised they had taken the firearm for safe-keeping due to some medical conditions the caller is going through. After speaking with both the man and the sister-in-law it was agreed upon that the firearm would stay at her house for safekeeping for the time being. The caller was advised that when he was ready to get his firearm back, he should contact the police department and they would assist in the process, and the sister-in-law was advised of the same.
–Officer on patrol and the Salem Fire and Street Departments observed a man with a fall injury who was uneasy on his feet at 1:34 p.m. Monday. The man had visible injuries and blood on his face and was treated and transported to the Salem regional Medical Center by the fire department.
–Officers responded to the 300 block Pidgeon Road at 12:12 p.m. Monday to provide traffic control for a structure fire. Officers stood by until no longer needed.
–Officers spoke with the manager of a local business concerning an issue that they have been having with some of the clientele. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of Prospect Street at 11:44 a.m. Monday for a report of criminal trespassing. The caller advised that people are accessing his property to enter and leave Kelly Park and he had caught several people going through his trash bins, and piles of metal on the property. Officers suggested they post more private property and no trespassing signs be posted around the property and contact the police department so they can speak with the people trespassing. The caller was provided with the parks department phone number for further questions regarding the park.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Continental Drive at 10:56 a.m. Monday for a report of possible theft. The caller advised that they had unknown charges on their Mastercard, and that they had already obtained a new card and were working on getting the charges reversed. The resident was advised to contact the police department if there were any further issues.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of West Tenth Street at 8:17 p.m. Monday for a report of criminal damage. The caller advised he thought he observed a person in his driveway during the night and that he had gone outside to ensure the garage was still locked, which it was. In the morning they found the lock on their trailer had been damaged, and that they wanted officers to be aware and to have the incident documented.
–Officers responded to the 1900 block of East State Street at 6:52 a.m. Monday for a reported road rage incident. The caller advised that a vehicle had pulled out in front of her and that she had honked her horn, after which the vehicle began following her. Officers advised they would make a report of the incident.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of South Lundy Avenue at 6:01 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a person knocking at the caller’s door. Officers checked the exterior of the residence and surrounding area with nobody being observed. A nearby resident came outside upon observing officers and advised that they had not heard anything.
–Officers responded to the 400 block of Jennings Avenue at 10:50 p.m. Tuesday for a reported neighbor dispute. The caller advised that their neighbor had punched the U-Haul truck they were renting and was yelling at them. Officers spoke to the neighbor who advised he was standing in his yard to prevent the caller from driving on it and that was when the verbal dispute occurred. Officers were advised by the caller that they were finished with the U-Haul and trying to leave.
–Officers on patrol in the 700 block of Benton Road at 10:41 p.m. Tuesday assisted the Perry Township officers with a traffic incident, during which K-9 Simon was deployed and indicated to the presence of narcotic odor. Officers stood by until they were no longer needed.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of Rose Avenue at 8:41 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised that he thought his girlfriend was supposed to leave for the evening. Officers advised him that she resides at the residence and is allowed there.
–Officers responded to the 200 block of Rose Avenue at 7:08 p.m. Tuesday for a reported domestic incident. Officers spoke with a boyfriend and girlfriend that live at the residence together. Both parties advised that the argument ensued over the boyfriend talking to other women. The girlfriend advised that during the argument, the boyfriend spit in her hair and scratched the right side of her face near her eye. No spit was observed, nor any scratches. The girlfriend also alleged that during the argument the boyfriend turned his cell phone to her to show her the girls he’d been talking to and when she went to grab the phone, he pulled it back and it “flew” out of his hands, striking their small infant child around his left eye causing injury while they were crawling on the living room floor. Photos were taken of the injury to the baby and the girlfriend refused to write a statement at that time, but a statement was taken from a witness. A referral will be made to children’s services and the girlfriend, and the baby left the residence for the evening.
–Officers responded to the 500 block of Aetna Street at 5:06 p.m. Tuesday for a reported dog bite. The caller advised that her juvenile son was over at a friend’s house and was bitten by their dog. Officers did not observe any wounds on the juvenile. Officers spoke with the owner of the dog who advised the juvenile had been told not to come into the house until the dogs had been put away, and that the juvenile did not listen and just walked into the house.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of Benton Road at 4:21 p.m. Tuesday for a reported dog at large. Officers located the owner of the dog and returned it.
–Officers on patrol in the 2200 block of East State Street at 3:59 p.m. Tuesday located a man with an active warrant. The warrant was confirmed and the man Michael Souers, 36, Salem, was taken into custody and transported to the Columbiana County Jail.
–Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 1:06 p.m. Tuesday for a report of assault. The man advised that while exiting a business in the 500 block of Broadway Avenue at closing time on Saturday he was attacked by a person known to him, who body slammed him on the ground causing an injury to the top/back of his head. Officers observed an injury in the described area and a statement and medical release form were filled out by the man. Further investigation is pending.
–Officers responded to the 2000 block of East State Street at 10 a.m. Tuesday for a reported combative patient. The caller advised they were on the way to a mental health facility and that his daughter was being combative. Officers spoke to the daughter who agreed to go to the hospital.
–Officers responded to the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue at 9:37 a.m. Tuesday for a school bus violation. Officers spoke with the caller determining the incident occurred in another jurisdiction. Officers advised them to contact the Perry Township Police Department about the issue.
–Officers responded to the 800 block of East Sixth Street at 9:19 a.m. Tuesday for a reported theft. Officers spoke with the caller who advised an unknown person had taken copper tubing from inside the garage without his knowledge or permission. Officers advised the caller of their options for dealing with the situation.
