–An officer was dispatched on July 5 at 12:37 a.m., to the Sheetz Gas Station on Maple Drive for a woman who was attempting to get gas during the $1.77 per gallon gas special. The woman said she had been waiting her turn and as she was pulling into the pumps another vehicle pulled in her place and an argument started.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 8 at 1:53 p.m., on Dresden Avenue for a registration violation. The officer advised the driver Wendy Logston, and the passenger Timothy Keyes, both 44, (addresses not provided) that the vehicle was being towed. As the vehicle was being inventoried, officers discovered marijuana and a crack pipe. Logston also advised officers she had a crack pipe in her pants. Both parties were arrested and charged with drug paraphernalia and issued summons to appear in court.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 8 at 5:22 for a vehicle observed to not make a complete stop at the stop sign on Y&O Road. The officer smelled an odor of alcohol on the driver, identified as Mark Smith, 36, (address not provided) and observed his eyes to be glossy. During an open-air sniff of the vehicle, a K9 alerted, and officers searched the vehicle. The officer put Smith under arrest for OVI and asked him to submit to chemical test at the department. Smith blew a BAC of .186. Officers made him aware of the suspension law since he was over the legal limit and issued him a citation for the charges and released him with a court date after calling for a ride home.
–An officer was dispatched on July 8 at 3:01 a.m., to the 16000 block of Martha Street for an unknown person lighting a stump on fire.
–Officers were dispatched to the 13000 block of Birch Road for a person to be removed. After being dispatched, officers were notified that the person had left and that police were not needed. Dispatch also noted the person appeared to be apprehensive about giving information, so the officers proceeded with the call. A female told officers she was fine, and the male had left the area.
–The owner of Beaver Creek Meadows Golf Course reported to police on July 8 that since July 4 some buildings have been broken into three times and have requested increased patrols.
–An officer observed a vehicle being driven on July 8 at 4:25 p.m., by Malverino Jones, 41, (address not provided) who was known to have an active warrant and conducted a traffic stop. Jones also had an active license suspension. He was taken into custody.
–An officer was dispatched to Walmart for a report of an unresponsive male in the bathroom on July 10 at 11:57 a.m. While en route the officer was notified that the male had taken off running from North Star EMS. The male identified as Nathan Schultz was found in the storage sheds across from Walmart. Schultz who had active warrants, was checked out by EMS and transported to ELCH due to him being impaired. Once discharged from ELCH, Schultz was transported to Columbiana County Jail.
–Officers responded on July 13 at 6:59 p.m., to the King Buffet parking lot for a female who struck a pole in the parking lot.
–An officer responded on July 14 at 7:12 p.m., to a private property crash at JP Pizzeria and Grille.
–An officer was dispatched to the 16000 block of Cornell Street on July 15 at 3:56 a.m., by a caller who had concerns about a new neighbor.
–Officers were dispatched to the A1 Express Gas Station on July 15 at 4:40 p.m., for a report of a reckless driver. The officer conducted a traffic stop. After the driver, said she had marijuana in the car, but that she had a marijuana card, officers searched her vehicle and found a blank prescription pill bottle that contained unidentifiable pills. The driver said the pills were prescription, but she couldn’t provide proof of that. Officers issued the driver a warning for the traffic violation and released her from the traffic stop. She was also told she had to provide proof of the prescription, or she would be charged if the pills came back as a controlled substance.
–An officer was called to Walmart on July 16 at 2:06 p.m., for a shoplifter. The officer was advised the vehicle had already left and was heading down S.R. 170. The officer found the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Two people in the car said they paid for their items and had receipts to show it. Walmart loss prevention said they had to go through the video footage to get the proper item number and price of the items total. The two were told if they were found to be taking items without paying, they would have a warrant put out for them. Richard Allison was issued a citation for driving under suspension pending the results from Walmart lost prevention. Walmart told officers that Mary Riggs, 29, (address not provided) failed to scan and pay for 36 items totaling $121.82 and Allison took one item totaling $49.96. The two are charged with petty theft and a warrant has been issued for their arrest.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 17 at 8:11 p.m., on a vehicle where they knew neither registered owner, Angela Ransom nor the driver Rodney Frye, both 42, (addresses not given) had a valid driver’s license. Ransom gave consent to officers to search the vehicle. Officers discovered several cut straws and two pill grinders with powder residue all through them. Ransom said the residue was suboxone. Both parties were places under arrest and issues summons for drug paraphernalia.
–An officer received a call from dispatch on July 17 at 7:06 p.m., telling him a female was being followed at Walmart. She was escorted to her vehicle by Walmart employees.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 17 at 7:01 p.m., on Y&O Road for a vehicle that appeared to have an unsafe rear suspension. After they refused consent for the officer to search the vehicle, a K9 was used to conduct an open-air search. K9 Noras alerted the vehicle. During the search of the vehicle officers found a small bag with a cut straw and a small container with a crystal rock like substance. The passenger Rachel Troup, 46, (address not provided) was placed under arrest and given a summons for a court date.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 18 at 3:19 p.m., on S.R. 170 on a vehicle being driven by a driver he knew had an active warrant and a suspended license. After Shelby Fennell,44, (address not provided) was placed under arrest the officer conducted an inventory of her vehicle and found cuts straws with residue and a plastic container with a crystal substance. Fennell was charged with drug paraphernalia and issued a citation for driving under suspension.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 18 at 8:44 p.m., on Dresden Avenue for a vehicle with a loud exhaust and no lights on. The officer noticed the driver, Billie Thompson, appeared nervous and disheveled and asked for consent to search the vehicle. Thompson refused. While the officer was writing the citation for marked lanes and lights required, K9 Noras alerted on the car. Officers found a plastic bag with a square stamp-like item. The item was sent out for testing.
–An officer dispatched to Quality Inn on July 20 at 4:46 p.m., for a domestic situation placed Robert Buzzard Sr., 50, (address not provided) under arrest and charged him with domestic violence for grabbing his girlfriend by the throat and punching her in the nose. Officers discovered Buzzard had an active warrant and also charged him with drug paraphernalia for having a glass pipe with residue on him.
–Officers conducted a traffic stop on July 20 at 7:07 p.m., on Sprucevale road for a vehicle with no visible registration. The registered owner of the vehicle Jamel Chatman, 28, (address not provided) who was the passenger was found to have an active warrant and placed under arrest.
–Officers responded on July 21 at 9:52 p.m., to a disabled vehicle on Grimms Bridge Road. The vehicle had the front driver’s side wheel broken off, several dents all over it and every window smashed out of it. Officers searched the vehicle finding the registration and a hammer that appeared to match the dents. The officers were informed of a male further up the road that appeared to be intoxicated. The male who was as severely intoxicated and had to be restrained was transported to the police department and then to the ELCH for intoxication and mental evaluation. The vehicle was towed by Calcutta Towing.
–A female contacted police on July 21 at 7:13 p.m., to report her purse taken from the bathroom at Sheetz.
–Officers responded to Burger King parking lot on S.R. 170 on July 21 at 6:48 p.m., for a report of road rage. Officers had both parties go their separate ways.
–An officer spoke to a female over the phone on July 27 at 4:13 p.m., who said she was concerned about one of her neighbors who is always outside yelling at cars that drive by her house and appears to be intoxicated.
–An officer conducted a traffic stop on July 25 at 6:28 p.m., on a vehicle he observed cross over the white fog line and onto the curb until they turned onto S.R. 11. The officer discovered the passenger Dawn Rankin (age and address not provided) had an outstanding warrant but was outside the pickup radius. Officers asked the driver for consent to search the vehicle, which was given, but Rankin refused consent to search her purse. K9 Rebel conducted an open-air sniff of the car and alerted on the passenger side. Officers found on Rankin a small bag containing a white rock substance and Chor Boy in her purse.
–The driver Rudolph Alford (age and address not provided) was cited for moving violations and Rankin was advised she would be later indicted pending BCI test results. Both parties were released from the traffic stop.
–Officers responding to a domestic situation in the 47000 block Lyman Drive on July 2 at 1:40 a.m. The female said she had been assaulted by the male. Officers determined after viewing video that the female was the instigator. The officers will consult with the prosecutor to see if any charges or are to be filed. The female was allowed to leave but was advised that if she returned, she would be arrested for criminal trespass.
