Salem
— Officers responded to a business in the 2400 block of East State Street at 4:46 a.m. Thursday for a report of a man loitering. Officers spoke with the man, who advised he was homeless. While speaking with the man he advised that his ankles were in pain and swollen and agreed to be checked out by medics. The man was transported to the Salem Regional Medical Center.
— Officers responded to the area of Franklin and Reilly Avenue at 9:18 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a lost cell phone that had been tracked to a nearby residence by GPS. Officers were advised by a resident that nobody in the residence had found a cell phone. Officers took the lost property report.
— Officers responded to the 2300 block of Lexington Avenue at 8:27 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Officers made contact with the person in question who advised they were fine.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of East Fourth Street at 5:42 p.m. Wednesday for a reported domestic dispute. The caller advised they heard yelling but were unsure from where. Officers checked the area but were unable to locate any dispute.
— Officers on patrol conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1900 block of East Pershing Street at 2:40 p.m. Wednesday after the driver was observed to have a suspended license. The vehicle did not immediately pull over, and when it did the driver, Keith Poulton, 53, Salem, exited the vehicle and walked back toward officers without being told to do so. During the stop open containers of alcohol were observed in the vehicle and a probable cause search was conducted. During the search, a glass pipe commonly used to smoke meth, with burn marks and residue, was located on the driver’s side floorboard. Poulton was cited for driving under suspension, with charges of possession of drug paraphernalia to be served at a later date. Poulton’s mother was contacted and responded to pick up her son, and the vehicle was left secured until it could be retrieved by a valid driver.
— Payton Taggart, 17, New Waterford, was cited for failure to yield and juvenile traffic offender after their westbound vehicle on Southeast Boulevard failed to yield after stopping at a stop sign and struck a vehicle driven north on South Lincoln Avenue by Harry Board, 49, East Liverpool, at 3:04 p.m. Wednesday. No injuries were reported and both vehicles were removed from the scene by Sinsley Towing.
— Officers on patrol in the area of North Lincoln Avenue and East Fourth Street located a woman with an active warrant at 2:24 p.m. Wednesday. Officers confirmed the warrant and took the woman, whose name was not listed, into custody. Contact was made with the prosecutor’s office and the warrant was recalled and the woman was transported to a facility in Niles for treatment.
— Officers spoke to a woman at the police department at 1:11 p.m. Wednesday for a report of menacing. The woman advised that she received threatening text messages from her ex and that she wanted to file charges. A statement was collected and a warrant will be issued. The woman was also advised of the protection order process.
— Officers responded to the 1900 block of Merle Road at 1:11 p.m. Wednesday for a reported runaway juvenile. Officers made contact with the juvenile’s mother who advised they had run away from home. Officers had the mother fill out the appropriate paperwork and the juvenile was entered into LEADS.
— Officers responded to the 1400 block of Westview Avenue at 12:50 p.m. Wednesday for a wellness check. Officers made contact with the person in question who advised they were fine.
— Officers responded to the 1100 block of Cleveland Street at 11:46 p.m. Wednesday for a reported domestic in progress. Officers made contact with both parties who advised the matter was verbal in nature only. The female half left the residence to go to a friend’s hours.
Leetonia
— Officers spoke to a man at the police department at 10:31 a.m. Wednesday for a report of phone harassment. The man advised that he had been receiving harassing calls from multiple numbers. Officers advised him to block the numbers or not answer the calls, and to keep a record of any further calls and anything said by the callers, and to advise the department of them. He advised he would block the recent numbers that have called.
— Officers responded to a residence in the 100 block of Chestnut Street at 9:24 a.m. Wednesday for a report of a domestic dispute. The caller alleged that her mother grabbed her by the neck and tossed a phone at her during an argument about using the caller’s car since Columbiana police had towed the mother’s car for OVI. The mother denied the allegation, and the caller had no visible signs of injury to back up their claim. The caller advised she did not want to press charges and was leaving to stay with her father who has custody of her.
— Officers responded to the 400 block of Cherry Fork Road at 8:10 p.m. Monday for a report of a person she has a no contact order against driving past her house. The caller advised that she felt like she was being harassed, and officers advised her that it was a public road, but they would speak with the person. Officers spoke with the person who advised that he was doing a job next door and was trying to make sure he wasn’t in violation of the no contact order stipulation.
Salem Township
— Officers responded to the 300 block of Walnut Street at 7 p.m. Tuesday for an animal complaint. The caller advised that the dog kennel up the street from her has had dogs continuously barking all day long and was continuing to do so. The caller has made several complaints about the dogs at the facility, and officers spoke with one of the owners who is working with the department on a solution to the issue. The owner advised that they are a commercial training facility for dogs all over the country and have several dogs on the property and its is hard to keep them from barking. The owner also advised that they do have anti-barking collars on the dogs at night to keep from disturbing the neighborhood, but during the day they are training.
