County Sheriff

— A suspicious vehicle was reported parked in the driveway of an abandoned property on Crestview Road, Fairfield Township, at 5:24 a.m. Sunday. While deputies checked the vehicle and then the property, they were approached by a hunter, who had the appropriate paperwork to hunt on the property.

— A 911 hangup call came from a Hadley Road, Unity Township, address at 6:18 a.m. Tuesday. A dispatcher informed deputies there was a similar call a couple days earlier and it was an active domestic in progress. Deputies went to the home Tuesday morning.

East Palestine

— Dispatch received a report from a man on East Martin Street about an argument he had with his live-in girlfriend Wednesday morning.

— An officer found a child’s jacket while checking the park playground early Wednesday morning.

— A woman residing on East Martin Street reported a physical altercation with her ex boyfriend at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday. Officers arrested Paul Hartman, 40, for alleged domestic violence and transported him to the Columbiana County Jail.

— Police responded to North Market Street Tuesday about someone’s personal belongings being disposed of without consent.

— The police department assisted a man in the repossession of a shed from a Leake Street residence Monday evening with help from the on-call county prosecutor. The owner of the shed was given time to retrieve belongings.

— Police responded to a complaint regarding a young boy driving an all-terrain vehicle on the roadway while threatening others harm Monday evening.

— An officer helped a Meadowview Apartments resident with her wheelchair Monday morning.

— Information was provided to residents Saturday evening regarding a property line dispute along West Martin Street.

— A vehicle was towed from a traffic stop on Park Drive Saturday evening for failing to have insurance.

— A shoplifting incident was reported at Rite Aid Pharmacy on West Main Street at 5:12 p.m. Saturday.

— Officers assisted with information on telecommunication harassment Saturday.

— Police were called to Sparkle Market Saturday afternoon about a hit and skip. Officers collected witness statements.

— Police cited Branden Kemp, 22, with possession of marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia following a traffic stop Saturday afternoon. Passenger, Jeremy Reynolds, 23, was cited for having an open container in the vehicle.

— Friday April 22 a person came on station to get information about a custody dispute.

— On the morning of April 25 a couple reported theft from August of 2021 involving someone known to them.

— At 11:06 a.m. Saturday April 23 Norfolk Southern requested an officer check the area of Stateline Bar about an adult and two youth “playing chicken” with a train. An officer was unable to locate anyone.

— Police responded to a disabled vehicle on East Taggart Street Friday April 22.

— An officer was called to help the East Palestine Middle School Principal with a problem concerning a student April 22.

Salem

— A suspicious vehicle was reported at 2:26 a.m. Wednesday in the 100 block of North Broadway. The man inside said he was just trying to warm up.

— Police responded at 11:37 p.m. Tuesday to the 900 block of Prospect Street to check the well-being of a female after her father said his daughter was fighting with her boyfriend and he had not been able to contact her for several hours. She told police she was okay and getting ready to leave for the night.

— Police conducting a warrant check at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of West Wilson Street were told by a woman that she had not seen the male in question for a few days and he took her car. He was not there. She did not want to press charges.

— A debit card left at the library was turned over to police at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday.

— A Lexington Avenue resident reported at 8:28 p.m. Tuesday that a woman who didn’t live there was cleaning out her vehicle and using the dumpster to throw away trash. She told police she was visiting her mother who lives in the complex.

— A bicycle left in the road at North Broadway and East Seventh Street since 7:30 a.m. was reported at 6:56 p.m. Tuesday and recovered by police.

— Phone harassment was reported at 6:27 p.m. Tuesday by a woman who just moved to the city and alleged receiving threats via telephone from her estranged husband. She was told her options.

— Michael Braun, 55, Alliance, was cited for assured clear distance ahead after his westbound vehicle struck the rear of another westbound vehicle on East State Street driven by Justin Moffett, 21, Hanoverton, who had slowed for traffic at 4:53 p.m. Tuesday. No injuries were reported.

— A crossing gate malfunction was reported at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday at the Mullins Street railroad crossing. Norfolk Southern was notified.

— A parking complaint was reported at 2:38 p.m. Tuesday in the 500 block of South Ellsworth Avenue. The vehicle was removed from the road.

— Police were called at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday to assist the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force in the 200 block of West State Street to make contact with a man. He had driven to the site and had a suspended driver’s license. The man, John Plavka, 50, Knox School Road, Minerva, was taken into custody by the MVHTTF agent and taken to jail on charges filed for engaging in prostitution and possession of criminal tools. He was also cited for driving under suspension and his vehicle was towed.

— A woman came to the station at 1:53 p.m. Tuesday to report possible juveniles being left home alone on Washington Avenue, noting they were not alone now. She wanted it documented and was given the number to contact children services.

— Police responded at 1:49 p.m. Tuesday to check the well-being of a man on Pearce Circle after he allegedly made a concerning comment over the phone earlier in the day. Officers spoke with him by phone and he said he had no intention of harming himself and didn’t mean the comment in the way that the caller took it.

— A caller reported a suspicious object at 1:07 p.m. Tuesday, asking police to check on mail sitting on the front porch of a residence of someone recently deceased in the 300 block of South Lincoln Avenue. Officers checked the mail and found nothing out of the ordinary.

— Theresa Keck, 76, no address listed, was cited for expired registration and assured clear distance after her eastbound vehicle struck the rear corner of a trailer stopped on East State Street for the driver to load equipment from a construction job at 1:03 p.m. Tuesday. The truck driver was James Mueller, 73, no address listed. No injuries were reported.

— A caller in the 300 block of West Seventh Street at 11:20 a.m. Tuesday reported a male acting strange and possibly withdrawing from alcohol. He appeared to have difficulty breathing and answering questions. He was taken to Salem Regional Medical Center by KLG for evaluation.

— The school resource officer was advised at 11:14 a.m. Tuesday about an issue of inappropriate behavior and spoke with the student about the inappropriate behavior and the consequences that could follow.

— A resident in the 800 block of North Howard Avenue reported at 9:02 a.m. Tuesday that a small white plastic table may have been stolen from her front porch.

— A man in the 400 block of North Ellsworth Avenue reported at 8:51 a.m. Tuesday that his trash can was stolen from the curb.

— Police were asked at 11:07 a.m. Monday to check on a dog in a vehicle at Centennial Park. The small dog was recently shaved and all windows and the sun roof were partially open. The owner was located nearby and had just stopped for lunch and was leaving shortly.

— Police at 10:07 a.m. Monday responded to the 200 block of North Cunningham Road to advise a male he needed to get his children in school or contact the school.

— Police were called at 8:40 a.m. Monday to the 300 block of West Wilson Street for a person stealing a bicycle. Officers spoke with the caller and owner of the bicycle and it was recovered later and returned to the owner.

— The owner of the former Goodwill location on South Broadway reported at 8:10 a.m. Monday that the store has been closed for more than six months and people are still dropping off clothes donations. She was told to post as many signs as possible. Officers said they’ll keep an eye out to tell people dropping off donations that the Goodwill store has relocated to the Salem Plaza, 2350 E. State St.
