Salem Walking Tour to highlight abolitionist history, Teach Truth Day of Action

SALEM — On Saturday, community members are invited to explore Salem’s lesser-known history through a guided walking tour highlighting the town’s role in the abolitionist movement. The event will begin at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church on Second Street. Participants will visit locations where prominent figures such as Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Parker Pillsbury, and other abolitionists spoke, organized and advanced the cause of ending slavery, including the Mt. Leetonia police: Charges expected after girl found eating out of dumpster

LEETONIA (WKBN) – Police say charges are expected after an 8-year-old girl was found eating out of the dumpster at a Leetonia daycare. Leetonia police chief Allen Haueter said they began an investigation after receiving a call Thursday from a local daycare, where people there found the child outside. The girl was taken to Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman and was then placed with relatives. Haueter said one guardian was at home, sleeping, when investigators went to the girl’s home, and the other guardian was at work. The girl’s stepsiblings were also removed from the ...
