The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County launches 2026 Summer Discovery Program

The Public Library of Youngstown & Mahoning County (PLYMC) launched its 2026 Summer Discovery program on May 26, offering free reading activities, educational programming, and community events for children, teens, and adults throughout Mahoning County. Summer Discovery encourages participants to build reading into their daily routine by tracking the number of days they read between May 26 and July 31. EAST PALESTINE — After fielding questions from residents village council has opted to table legislation that would lower the minimum age for law enforcement officers. City Council was moving forward with legislation that would change the minimum age to 18 before opting to table the matter following public input during the May 11 council meeting. New Waterford council providing property for land bank program

NEW WATERFORD — The village is giving some land to the county land bank for use in the Mow to Own program. Village Mayor Shane Patrone said this is the first time the village has done this and he said it’s an opportunity for the village to dispose of small vacant, unusable land. The 0.38 acres of vacant property is located on Silliman Street. Patrone said the acreage consists of three lots, with one against the railroad tracks and one along the creek in the village. CIC votes to pursue debt collection for defaulted loans

EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool Community Improvement Corporation will start the debt collection process for defaulted loans. During a full CIC board meeting, following CIC finance and property committee meetings, the board voted unanimously to start the debt collection process, which could include debt exams and garnishment against two business who have defaulted on their loans. The CIC is going after the principal amounts owed by Dee’s Crafts and Cravings in the amount of $4,528.13 and Coppa Mutts and Cutts in the amount of $26,531.81. The matter was discussed in a ...
