EAST PALESTINE — The East Palestine School District is asking voters to approve a new 1 percent continuous earned income tax levy this November. The board of education passed a resolution during this month’s regular meeting to place the levy on the general election ballot. EAST PALESTINE — Village police are investigating a drive-by shooting that occurred early Sunday on West Martin Street. Lt. Don Johnson released a statement via social media Sunday morning stating that the shooting occurred in the 800 block of West Martin Street and it is believed it was a targeted incident and there is currently no threat to the public. West Branch school board approves updates, financing for Knox school

BELOIT — The West Branch school board will be updating the heating and cooling systems at Knox Elementary. The board recently contracted with TRANE for the project and approved a lease purchase agreement to finance it. Superintendent Matthew Manley said the project will include a new roof, boilers and eco-management system to make the building more energy efficient. SALEM — City council recently recognized Salem High School’s track and field standouts. Mayor Cyndi Baronzzi Dickey recognized the outstanding performance of Salem City School District students at the state track and field meet and presented them with certificates of recognition and appreciation for their efforts. SALEM — Some system hiccups continue as work winds down on phase three upgrades at the wastewater treatment plant. Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager Dean Stokes told the utilities commissioners in their June meeting that issues with the sludge conditioning building’s main flow meter reading incorrectly still had not been resolved despite ongoing collaboration with Centrisys to diagnose and correct the route issue in recent months.
