EAST PALESTINE — The East Palestine School District has officially moved forward with placing a 1 percent earned income tax levy on the Nov. 3 election ballot. The board of education passed a resolution during a special meeting this month that places the issue on the ballot. Beaver Local superintendent says property tax reduction will impact district

CALCUTTA — An additional property tax reduction effective next year will have an impact on the Beaver Local School District. District Superintendent Eric Lowe briefed the board of education on the impact during the July meeting. The 2.5 percent reduction in the owner occupancy property tax was recently approved by Columbiana County Commissioners. Salem to partner with county to secure road salt supplier

SALEM — The city of Salem will be partnering with the county to secure its own supplier for road salt this year. City council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize City Service Safety Director Joe Cappuzzello to purchase road salt by advertising for bids with the Columbiana County Engineer’s Office and entering a contract for the purchase rather than participating in the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT)’s annual contract. East Liverpool opts to stay with state salt program

EAST LIVERPOOL — The city will remain in the state salt purchasing program for the upcoming winter season. Council left the decision to Safety Service Director Bill Jones after discussion at council’s July 6 meeting in which Jones reported a substantial price increase in the salt from $58 per ton last year to $151.85 per ton (a 262% price increase) for this year.
