CALCUTTA -- An additional property tax reduction effective next year will have an impact on the Beaver Local School District.
District Superintendent Eric Lowe briefed the board of education on the impact during the July meeting.
The 2.5 percent reduction in the owner occupancy property tax was recently approved by Columbiana County Commissioners.
Under this reduction, which is payable in 2028, homeowners will save $25 for every $1,000 in property taxes.
"This tax break is set to last for only one year, but commissioners suspect it will last longer," Lowe said, reiterating what was previously reported by news partner, WKBN.
While recognizing the benefit to local taxpayers, Lowe reminded the board that Beaver Local Schools "continues to proactively evaluate district finances and identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies."
District Treasurer Stacy Williams said after the meeting that the district is waiting to hear back from the county on exactly how much school revenue the tax reduction will affect.
In her report to the board she said the district was successfully closing out this year fiscally, and the district is in a good position entering the 2026-27 school year.
"As state funding remains a challenge due to increasing operating costs and reduced revenues, the district remains committed to responsible fiscal stewardship while maintaining quality educational opportunities for students," Lowe said.
