County purchases road salt for winter

LISBON — The Columbiana County commissioners approved an emergency purchase of road salt in their meeting Wednesday. The commissioners unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of rock salt from Hoopes-Edwards Capital, LLC for $126.50 per ton at a cost not to exceed $124,999.99. While in years past the county has obtained its road salt through the Ohio Department of Transportation’s cooperative purchasing program, Commissioner Tim Ginter said that the board was informed the county would be unable to do so again until January next year. CCCTC passes resolution for Tax Increment Financing

LISBON — The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center has passed a resolution waiving the required notices for the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) being sought by the St. Clair Township Board of Trustees. The career center board has been in discussions with the Beaver Local School District, which would also be affected by the TIF proposed by the township. According to the resolution, St. Clair Township is planning to offer 100 percent exemption over a period of 30 years for affected parcels. Wellsville PD likely to see increase in OT costs

WELLSVILLE — The Wellsville Police Department is short on staff, so overtime may increase in the near future. Lt. Marsha Eisenhart Tuesday told village council members that one of the police officers should know by Sept. 8 if he is going to need surgery and if he does, he will probably be off work until February. The department also has another officer off for military service and next week two officers will be at Camp Fitch as chaperones. East Liverpool school board approves SRO contract, other personnel for 26-27 school year

EAST LIVERPOOL — The East Liverpool Board of Education approved several personal matters including resignations, hirings and a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for the school resource officers (SRO) during the first board meeting of the 2026-2027 school year, which coincided with the first day of school. The MOU is with the East Liverpool Police Department whose officers serve as SROs. Board members approved and accepted the resignation of Anthony Cusick, ninth grade assistant football coach.
