County commissioners approve 2027 budget nearly $1.5M higher than this year

LISBON — Columbiana County commissioners approved a general fund tax budget for next year that’s nearly $1.5 million higher than the general fund appropriations for this year. But they’ll still need to cut budget requests by $390,947 to hit the mark the auditor says they can spend next year in the general fund. “The requests are always much more than we’re given,” Commissioner Mike Halleck said. The projected income totals $28,376,130 while the funding requests from the various offices dependent on the general fund total $28,767,077, for a difference of $390,947. ...

East Liverpool council president passes away

EAST LIVERPOOL — John Torma, East Liverpool City Council President, passed away on July 8 at the age of 72. Torma has served the East Liverpool community council president for more than 30 years. Council member John Mercer, who will serve as president pro-tem over the city council until a replacement is selected, plans to honor Torma’s memory with a moment of silence at the Aug. 3 council meeting.
