Friends of the Banquet will sponsor the 4th Thursday Dine In or Drive Thru Banquet in Salem from 5 p.m. until the food is gone Thursday at the Salem Memorial Building. This will be the last 4th Thursday Banquet; only the 4th Thursday Banquet will be discontinued. Wellsville school board votes against non-renewal of teacher’s contract

WELLSVILLE — During a special meeting of the Wellsville Board of Education Monday morning, board members voted against the non-renewal of fourth-grade teacher Mitchell McDowell’s contract, meaning his contract will be renewed and he will continue to teach at Daw Elementary. The special board meeting was called due to the motion being tabled during the May 18 meeting after a nearly four-hour executive session to discuss the matter without resolution. CCCTC enters oil and gas lease for over 52 acres

LISBON — The Columbiana County Career and Technical Center has entered into an oil and gas lease for 52.77 acres of district-owned land. During the May board of education meeting the board approved leasing the land to Hilcorp Utica, LLC of Houston, Texas, for $26,387. The five-year lease translates to roughly $500 per acre in revenue for the district. Additionally, the lease includes a 17 percent royalty to be paid to the district by Hilcorp for any oil and gas produced.
