LISBON -- The zoning committee of Lisbon Village Council will meet at 5:30 p.m. today to discuss food truck fees, which council agreed recently to start having enforced in 2027.
The new fees were part of the new zoning code approved last year, with Councilwoman Melissa Hiner questioning at a council meeting last month why no fees had been collected for food trucks this year.
The fees for food trucks were set in the new zoning code as $100 per day or $250 for six months or $500 for the year.
Council agreed to let the fees go for 2026, but to start collecting in 2027 and include a definition for annual, saying it means from January to December for any zoning fees. Six months will be defined as January through June or July through December.
During the last council meeting earlier this month, Mayor Peter Wilson said council should look at the fees again.
"I got some call back on that," he said, adding he knows the decision was already made, but maybe it deserves a second look.
According to Wilson, the city of Columbiana charges $100 for the year and East Palestine charges $50 for the year. There was a suggestion that the village's fees were too high.
Hiner said the food trucks could be pulling away from local businesses. Wilson, however, said the food trucks weren't competing with the restaurants.
The decision was made to refer this to the zoning committee, which will review it and make a recommendation to council for 2027.
In other business, there were brief updates on the skateboard park, the swimming pool, active transportation plan and safety crossing at Thomas Road and West Lincoln Way and Maple and South Lincoln Avenue.
In other business, council reappointed Alec Beech as village solicitor for $21,500 per year, appointed Jennifer Riser to a vacant Board of Zoning Appeals seat and held final reading on the new 2026/2027 payroll ordinance, which includes raises of 3.5% for village employees and an announcement that the village was being awarded the Business of the Month award by the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce.
