Placing flags at Columbiana Cemetery

American Legion Post 290 will be placing almost 1,300 American Flags on veteran’s graves in Columbiana Cemetery for Memorial Day at 5 p.m. Thursday.

Museum of Ceramics Summer Youth Art Academy

The Summer Youth Art Academy kicks off in June at the Museum of Ceramics. The academy is open to ages 8 through 18 and will meet weekly on Wednesdays from 1 to 2:15 p.m. starting June 10 and concluding Aug. 5. Students will learn about local artists including Hans Hacker, Elsa Rubin and Charles Burchfield as well as historically important artists including Claude Monet, Salvador Dali and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Participants will also create projects associated with the specific artists and explore painting, drawing, collage and more. Cost for the whole nine-week program is $40 and all supplies are included. Household hazardous wastes collection

Arcwood Environmental is sponsoring a collection of household hazardous wastes for residents of the East Liverpool area from 8 a.m. to noon May 16 at 1250 St. George St., East Liverpool, rain or shine. Before bringing materials check all containers making sure lids are tight and all products are labeled. Driver’s license or photo ID is required. Smoking, trailers and propane tanks are not permitted, and residents must remain in their vehicles. Up to 20 gallons or 335 pounds of household hazardous water per vehicle will be accepted. Materials that will be accepted include household cleaners, lawn and garden chemicals, pool chemicals, aerosol cans and antifreeze, paint and paint products, solvents, strippers, turpentine, light bulbs including compact fluorescents, batteries, computers and system components, televisions, microwaves, and nail polish and remover. Materials that will not be accepted include commercial or business waste, mercury, asbestos, PCBs, transformers, capacitors, needles/sharps of any kind, refrigerators/humidifiers/air conditioners, compressed gas/propane tanks, explosives/ammunition, medical/infectious wastes, radioactive waste and tires.
